I have a car rented with National - I booked the car back in August for December it was one price - then when I looked at my reservation this morning it had gone up and I just checked it again - it has risen 2.00 since this morning. Each time I am going in through the National website clicking on the modify/cancel tab and putting in my reservation number and last name.

My question is which price am I going to have to pay? The one that I originally booked it for or whatever the price is the day that I pick it up?

As long as you don't change your reservation, it will be the rate on your original confirmation. If you go in and modify and hit confirm, you will get the higher rate so stay away from that.

When I check on prices after making my reservation, I just go through as though I were making a new reservation. I only look up my specific reservation when I am going to modify it or cancel it. So I would, if I were you, stop looking through the reservation you have; as long as you haven't changed it (and you should get an email with the new price, terms, etc if you were to do so), and just go through as though you are making a new reservation for that time. Play around with the codes and coupons, make sure you have the best combo, and if yours is still better, then just close the page and don't think more about it. The way you're doing it seems like there's room for accidentally changing it. Too "dangerous" for me.

You should have a reservation with a confirmation number. Whatever price is on that reservation is the one you should pay when you pick up the car, not the rate at the day of pick up.

I don't know how the price is changing on a confirmed reservation unless you are checking the price for a new reservation. As has been mentioned, don't change or modify anything or else the price will change. If you find a better rate, confirm it and then you can cancel the old reservation. Keep track of the numbers so you don't cancel the good reservation by accident. I've changed cars about 10 times now for the upcoming April trip. Saved about $150 so far.
