We are going to Disney in december for 2 weeks, and I have a few questions about rental cars. We are using ME at the begining of the trip, but we want to rent a car for the second half to make it easier to move the clan over to Universal. We would like to just rent at the car care center, so we don't waste half a day trying to get the car from an off site vedor(if anyone has ideas on this i would appreciate it). I am wondering what is the best time frame to rent the car so we can get the best deal (how long in advance)? we really only need the car for 5 days, but will rent for a full week if it gets us a better deal.

There are several car rental companies that have offices on Disney property. Be sure to check the price on all of them, not just Alamo (the one at the Car Care Center).

You'll have to pay attention to coupons that you may apply. Some of them require a Saturday night stay with a 5 day minimum, while the shorter ones have a 3 day maximum. Once you can play with the numbers, that will help you gauge. I agree, sometimes it's cheaper to do the entire week (or 6 days) vs a shorter time. Watch the boards as falling prices are often posted.

For our last few trips and the one coming I have a rental at Dollar at one of the DTD hotel locations.

On my first trip it took me 40 total time to get from door to door when picking up the rental from SSR (walked).

Then on that return it took me 70 mins to gas,return walk to Marketplace bus stop and bus up to MK and meet DW and DD.

When it was so short I stopped timing it and have ran into no problems at all.

They are the cheapest I have found using the KISS2 code. I have a compact for the week (caliber) for $124. remember you can get a smaller car because you don't have to worry about luggage just bodies to get around.
