Can we pick up a rental at the airport and drop it off at the port the next morning?

If I remember correctly Avis is the only one who has an office close to the pier. The airport is about 3 miles away. One of them had a shuttle that we used a few years ago but I can't remember which one.

At the top is the airport location for Avis.
The lower one is closest to the Disney cruise terminal and hotels you were considering. (Kettner Ave).

You will also pay for parking at the hotel.

Are you planning on going out in San Diego? Or just need to have a vehicle (I understand). Otherwise, hotel shuttle from the airport. Eat within walking distance and then walk or rideshare to the port is actually less transfers / time / money (probably than a car rental).

Car rental with drop-off at Kettner is actually cheaper than return at airport ($199) for the shown date.

As always, you are busy being awesome.
Do you know if the Whyndam has a shuttle from the airport?

I would just stay at the Wyndham. Get the shuttle from the airport. Walk across the street to the port in the morning.

But yes, I'm sure you can return a car in the morning.

New plan after taking the advice here:
Take the shuttle to the hotel, stay there until morning, take a lyft to a nice resturant semi nearby for lunch then take a lyft to the port. We want to time it to show up once they are allowing folks to just walk on regardless of pat - that will mean not standing around for us.

Throwing this out there. Lots if what you need are nearby. (Now, about the popcorn, hmm). You’ve got Claim Jumper right next to hotel. Across the street are Brigantine Seafood and Miguel’s Cocina (owned by same company) - some form of seafood available. When going somewhere new, TripAdvisor and Google maps give me a lot of ideas.

On Saturday, you could leave luggage with hotel front desk, walk across street to restaurant, retrieve luggage and stroll to port.

When I think of San Diego, I think fish tacos. My time in SD has been limited - and ends up with eating at Rubio’s for tacos or Black Angus for steak (family favorites not available east of the Mississippi).

As they say, you do you. Have fun with the planning. I could use a fish taco about now (and it is breakfast time).

Last year, we ate at the Claim Jumper and thought it was good. Also the restaurants across the street looked nice too!
