Rental Car Questions

I am considering a summer trip to DLR (July probably). I do not need a rental for the entire trip because I'll be spending about half at DLR and staying on Harbor. I would like to take day trips to Universal and the beach. Here are my questions:
1. Is my best option a rental car? I know there are tours (buses) that go to Universal, but that won't help with the beach.

2. Is there a rental location nearby where I could pick up a car for the last couple of days?

3. Is it possible to then return the cat to the airport (SNA) so I wouldn't have to get a shuttle back to the airport?

4. How much does a 2-3 day rental typically cost?

Sorry for so many questions - I am a WDW veteran and never rent a car there, so this is new to me. Thanks for any help you can give!

We are renting a car from Alamo which is located right in Downtown Disney on our trip in March so we can take a day trip to Legoland.

You will have to check their website to answer your other questions about drop off at SNA and prices.

I can't help you with all of your questions, but I do know that there is a Alamo Car Rental in Downtown Disney. I have used them many times. Normally, I take a taxi from John Wayne Airport, just rent the car for the days that I need it and return it at the same location. Then, I take a taxi back to the airport. They have been very accommodating. I am able to rent the type of vehicle that I want/need. I always call and reserve it in advance.

The cost depends on the type of vehicle you need. The larger (and/or nicer) the vehicle, the more expensive.

Hope that helps. I am sure others on the boards can help you with the other questions. :)

Have a great trip!!

It's probably going to cost a lot more to drop a car at a different location then it would to just pay a taxi back to the airport. Usually the "one way" rental fee is at least $100.

There is an Alamo in DTD right across from the DL hotel. I believe there is another rental place down on Katella as well.

Depending on where you stay you have other options closer than the Alamo in DTD. Not that DTD is far away but the other's might be cheaper.

There is a Dollar in the Anaheim Plaza Inn which is at the corner of Harbor and Disney Way.

There is an Avis I think in the Park Vue Inn which is almost next to the Esplanade crosswalk. Though I'm not positive I saw it in the PVI it may of been next door.

Also down near the convention center there is Hertz and Enterprise.

Try hotwire to see what it will cost ya from airport and dtd.

It will cost you more picking up one place and dropping it @ another

I just rent a car for the whole week. No need for a $50 taxi ride to and from the airport. We are going in 2 weeks and rented an small SUV for $160 from Alamo.
