Is it normal to rent a car from a trip from NJ to Orlando? We are definitely driving for our next trip in 2013 but I am not sure if we should rent. Our car is not the best to travel in but manageable. It would just be short on space. It is a 2012 but small. Should we rent or trade in the 96 beater car before we go. The beater is old but has low mileage. I would hate to see it go. I would like to rent a minivan for the room. Has anyone done this before? Would it be cheaper to rent one way there and then rent one way home?

I've found its overall less expensive to rent it for the entire time, rather than split it up. Usually the rental companies charge a fee for one way rentals that can be prettty steep.

Just make sure when you rent that you have unlimited mileage and you can take the vehicle out of state.

We drive older cars too. They are very reliable and work well for us. We take short trips with them, but when we needed to drive from Wisconsin to Tennessee, we decided to rent a minivan.

We loved it! It was a new model, fully loaded and treat to drive. Almost like part of the vacation! We were so comfortable and had lots of extra room. Plus we did not put any extra miles, or wear and tear on our own cars.

We rented round trip from Budget, with the special code x474200, and got a great deal. You need to be careful because some places have limited miles, limits how far you can drive (like only to adjoining states), or charge extra for another driver.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!
