Rental Car Newbie

We have never rented a car for a Disney trip before. In the past we either had a limo pick us up and transfer us to Disney or we used Magical Express. Because we are venturing over to the dark side and trying Universal out this trip we decided to rent a car. A couple of questions:

1. We rented with Budget and reserved a mini-van for $359 for 8 days, is this a decent deal? This was the best deal I could find on a van when you factor in the fact that they don't charge for an extra driver (we will probably both drive at some point)

2. Do I need a copy of my car insurance (includes rental car insurance)?

3. Can I just bring my own GPS?

4. What is the procedure once we land? Should I go and rent the car while DH gets the luggage? (Rental is in my name) Or should we all go get the luggage or should we go rent the car first since we will have to wait on the luggage anyways?

Rental prices depend a lot on when you are traveling. In general, I would say that no, it's not a good price. You need to find codes and coupons to get a better price. You can sign up for Alamo Insider which will give you a free second driver and it will also get you discounts.

Yes, you can bring your own GPS.

As far as insurance goes you will need to check exactly what your personal vehicle policy covers....ie rentals/non owned vehicles Also, some credit cards offer insurance.

Personally, I would get my luggage first and then go to the rental counter.

Thanks for the reply, sorry I wasn't more specific, we are travelling the first week of February and we do have codes that we have used.

Many agencies need to see the driver licenses of all authorized drivers, so if you both plan on driving the vehicle, you should both go to the rental counter just to be safe.
