I was pleased to find out that there is a way to avoid paying to park a rental car while at port and still get to the port before everyone else. Avis not only has a rental car terminal directly inside (no bus transfer) MCO Orlando Airport but they also have a drop off at the Port Canaveral Radisson Resort. This avis location has bus service to the Port Canaveral Terminal (which is about 1-2 miles from the ship).

WHY PAY FOR RENTAL CAR WHEN DISNEY BUSES ARE FREE?
We have 2 small children and I want the convienence of a rental car. With Diapers (Pullups) there is nothing worse than being in a strange place and not being able to find what you need. Plus we can accually see more of the surounding area and go as we please. No tipping involved or surley taxi drivers overcharging. My wife and I were so glad that when it got hot in crowded in the theme parks we could leave and head back to the hotel within 15-20 minutes without waiting for a bus.
THE EXCEPTION: (ONLY IF STAYING DISNEY WORLD HOTELS) DON'T TAKE CAR TO THE MAGIC KINGDOM. TAKE THE DISNEY BUSSES
The only exception is Magic Kingdom because Disney bus transportation bypasses the ticket and transportation center boat lauches and monorail and drops/picks you up within 100 yards of the front gate. This will save an extra 20 to 40 minutes getting to and from your car and then to your hotel. The busses that drop of at the front gate are for Disney Resort Properties not serviced by the monorail (Polyniesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian)
Somthing else I found out if you are staying in a Walt Disney Resort or Down Town disney Good Neighbor resort and you have a rental car, you will NOT have to pay for parking when you arive at any of the Disney Theme park parking lots. Just be sure you have your disney resort parking sign in the car before you leave. Parking is normally $6.00 per car. Some Hotels may charge for self parking so it is best to ask before you leave.
