Rental Car - Additional Driver?

We'll be heading out to Anaheim/San Diego in August with another family. We're planning on renting a minivan to get the six of us around(2 Couples, and we each have one child). I was thinking that maybe it would be best of have one person from each couple be a driver, in case if one family wanted to leave DLR early one day or needed to run to the store or whatever... Is the additional free driver that you get with rentals have to be a spouse?

If you rent through Alamo and you are BOTH Alamo Insider members, you can both be drivers for no additional fee. There may be others, but I know this is correct for Alamo.

Would anyone like to second the above answer that if you're both Insiders then you don't have to be spouses to get an additional driver free.
My son and I would both like to drive the vehicle and he doesn't live with me (has his own family). If I rent the vehicle and we're both Insiders can he be the additional driver ? Just want to be sure of this before making rental plans. What do you say gmeh1 ?

Even if he isn't an Insider member and you are, he can still be the add.driver for free assuming the reservation is in your name. But,since it is free to join, have him join also.
Where in NS are you? My dad was from NS. About the only place in the world I can find my maiden name. LOL.

Depends totally on the rental company. Check their rules.
