Rent forever or finally buy?

Remember, if momma ain’t happy, you’re basically not going to be happy….

I also own at BLT.
I will take another run at BLT but it has to be a price that is within the range that others have paid. I saw a number of BLT contracts sold for between 130 -135 and I offered 137. No takers after 6 offers so I moved on.

I believe I could have purchased SSR for lower than the $104 I paid but I was tired of the process so I took the deal.

I don't go into these offers with the attitude that I have to crush the seller but some of the brokers were ignoring the market.

That’s awesome!

Did we mention how quickly add-on-itus sets in? Enjoy!
HAHA my husband and I have already discussed this! I'm sure down the line we will add on but for now I am just overjoyed to be a member!

Next up: Welcome home trip. Is this a REAL thing? We weren't able to book tonight as it was close to customer service end time. I'm thinking of asking for a BLT, BRV, or CCV stay as those are all places we have never stayed.

Yes it's real. Just call member services and ask them to book your welcome home trip. We booked BRV at Christmas time for ours a few years ago. Enjoy!

Welcome home! :) But yes MS can help book your first trip since you purchased direct even though its showing as unavailable on the scheduler. They typically save a few rooms in their inventory for this exact cause.

In an unexpected turn of events we ended up purchasing a direct contract at Grand Floridian. Bye bye renting!
Congrats! What made you do it now and not wait for Poly 2??? Or do your resale at SSR? I'm on the cusp and haven't figured out which side I'll land...

I love Riviera and own two retail and one resale contract there. This allows me to stay there 3 or 4 nights every visit which is great. Yes the points charts are at the higher end, but I own at other resorts as well, so it all works out. I always do split stays and usually stay 3, 3 and 4 nights at three of my resorts. I will stay at BLT or BRV where I own, and RIV or BWV where I also own. I own at OKW and AKL as well and will mix those in as well. I recently got three nights at AKL Jambo House Club Level which I am really looking forward to.

Here's all the things that went into play!
1) Possible restrictions on a Poly2 contract. If the restrictions are the same as Riveria's that really put me off as far as resale. Although that was has not been confirmed, the possibility of it made me nervous. I'm assuming sales will occur in 2024 and waiting ANOTHER YEAR when we really should have bought years ago became a pusher.
2) GFV are selling at about 217 a point currently which is quite frankly a steal from a buyer's perspective. It's a 40 year contract with refurbished rooms, more refurbishments to come as well. The walkway to magic kingdom is a selling point too. We just stayed at BWV and walked to HS, I'm assuming the path is about that length which is perfect for me.
3) GFV is ICONIC. It's on a lot of bucket lists for many people, particularly during the holidays. Should we ever need to rent, I doubt we will have issues. As I sit here however, we plan on using our points for the foreseeable future.
4) We want to stay at Riveria and Poly2 which pushed us out of the resale camp. Furthermore, should there not be availability at Poly2 there is usually studios at Poly open at the 7 month window. I'd be fine staying at Poly and using the amenities at Poly2 should there not be room availability.
5) I know we will need enough points for one bedroom villas with my children in the future. Buying a small resale contract was not going to fit our needs. However, we plan on adding another resale contract down the line which will probably be Riveria as we will not be restricted with our direct buy at VGF.

Hope that helps! This is something we spent years thinking about. Being able to finally say we are owners brings me so much joy!

Can't argue with that logic!!! I'm thinking about restrictions too, but don't have 40 years left in me to make direct as easy a decision. I also primarily travel by myself so no need for a 1 bedroom, but trying to keep costs under control since these are my own little getaways while my non-Disney loving family stay home (clearly I went wrong somewhere!!!) I was thinking small resale where I really want to stay and potentially GFV for SAP, just hesitating between direct & resale... Wishing you & your family many magical years as owners 🪄

If it's just you, my vote would be a small resale contract with a friendly points chart, where you can stretch out your stay in a low point studio. I feel like now is a particularly good time to buy as ROFR has been passing A LOT of contracts lately. But do whatever will make your heart happy! Sending you pixie dust for that perfect contract for you!

This is the situation with me and my wife.

Being able to have my daughter and granddaughter as additional beneficiaries is a bonus
Added bonus is our youngest has looped around to being interested in the parks again - kinda. They buy a one day ticket and go for long weekends. In our experience Disney does the 'bubble' like no other we've tried. Easy vacation - with or without parks.

We ended up rescinding our contract. After about 48 hours, we decided the timing wasn’t right. Back to the drawing and renting board.
I will say this, the quality assurance person who handled my cancellation was amazing. She basically was like done and done! There was no push back to sales which I appreciated.

Long time renter here, have himmed and hawed buying dvc for years. Early 30s with two small children. Our son loves resort variety, we get an ornament from every resort we stay at for our Christmas tree. We love the Riveria and honestly, would have already purchased there if it wasn’t for the resale restrictions. Do I think we would resale? No but this restriction really irks me about possible restrictions to come. Those who already own, how restricted by the points chart are you regarding staying anywhere but your home resort?

Depends on room category and time of year. For example, you want a 1 bedroom preferred view, you can get that at 7 months at most resorts. You want a standard studio Thanksgiving week, you will need to book your home resort right at 11 months.

Have the increasing annual dues become noticeable? Is the process of renting points relatively easy?

It depends, whether you go through a broker or do it privately. If you have 9 leftover points one year, you’re not going to be able to rent those out. The market has become a bit saturated so you may not get top dollar for points right now.

But typically, with a little effort, you should be able to rent out unused points for some return.

I agree with this. We bought because I was paying cash for moderates or renting points almost every year. Buying resale with cash made sense for us. Now, I am recovering from breast cancer surgery and out of work for a month. I am so happy that we have some prepaid vacations! My dues for 100 points are less than $70/month.
