Rent a car to drive to 5K

No more taxi questions. Only driving questions.
What if we rented a car and drove over to the race? Could we sit in our car until like 5:00, 5:15, etc? Could we see everyone getting ready to start?

Not sure about the 5K, it was a few years ago that I did Dopey.
Last year for the COLD marathon I left my car at 5:20 to head for the corrals.

It is a long walk and I heard the fireworks go off on the way there.
There was still plenty of people walking to the corrals.
The good thing about a car is not checking a bag, security issues, etc.
I made it to the my middle corral 8 (H) out of 16, with plenty of time.
