Ok, this is the first time I am going to DW since I was, oh about 8 or so. Just wondering what would be the best way to get around the parks. Should We rent a car or use the DW transportation. Which is easier and faster. We will be staying at the wilderness lodge from June 21-june28 or so.

Also what is the best way to get from the airport.

Thanks

Well my last trip was the first time I had a car and I loved it - I stayed at WL and BWV whilst I had the car as I was going to be going shopping off-site :)

I think Disney Transportation is really good and I've never been let down by it. From the WL you 'd get the boat to MK which I think is great and timely. Also took the bus to MGM and that was good too.

I found the car useful as I was going for a lot of meals at other resorts and you can't get buses from resort to resort so I found it more direct to go by car. The roads are so well signed so I never got lost :) I then used the car to get to the parks a couple of times and I have to say it was a lot quicker except when I went to MK - I would also use Disney transportation for that as I love getting dropped off outside the door so to speak ;)

We first when to WDW September 2002 and I think if we had hired a car it would have been a bit of a nightmare for us. The transport in Orlando is brilliant that you don't need a car (well I think so anyway).

You have the Lynx Buses and also the I Ride Trolleys, plus the Disney Transport System to get about.

We are going back in March and wont be using a car again for most of the time, we have the transfers with Virgin to and from the Airport. We will however, be hiring one for the day only because we are meeting someone at Leu Gardens but apart from that I think you can do without it if you really want to.

The last time I went was the first time we had a car. And to be honest I thought it was well worth it. Disney transportation is great if you are going from your resort to the parks and other attractions. But it can be a pain to go from resort to resort. Not many people going to Disney bring cars so parking and driving around was extremely easy. We did a lot of resort hopping and wedding planning while we were down there so it was helpful to have a car.

Disney transportation is also a bit on the slow side in my opinion. I once stayed at the Key West Resort and it took us a minimum of about a half hour to get where we needed to go. First you have to wait for the right bus to where you want to go, then you have to make several stops before getting there. It's convienent but slow.

If you don't plan on going off site I would reccomend Disney. We are from a small town and aren't used to the traffic, and with disney we had no headaches of driving around and getting lost. If you need to be somewhere at a specific time just plan ahead. I liked having someone else drive because it gave you time to look at the scenary. We also went with Tiffany Towncar for transportation to and from the airport and it was well worth it. Much more private and a lot faster than mears. Anyhow I like going to Disney because of not having to drive anywhere, I can just sit back and relax.
