How do you all usually go about it? We are DVC members and usually just renew when ours expire. I read a lot about people buying tickets and upgrading them though...does that accomplish anything after the initial purchase.

is there a way to buy them within the 60 day (i think) post expiration window and create a later expiration. For example....we have a trip planned for march before our aps expire then we don't have another one planned until early july. my plan now is just to renew sometime when I get around to it but if I could reset the expiration date for next year to may that would be awesome. I am thinking the window they give you doesn't re-set the date though...i'm guessing no matter when i renew mine will expire march 28th.

I couldn't find a great spot to put this but if I'm missing something let me know. thanks for any input!

1. That's handy if you are taking part in a Resort Package that requires a minimum purchase of park tickets to get the "deal."
2. If you buy MagicYourWay tickets and don't use them, they "keep" forever until you're ready to use them and/or upgrade them, or use their purchased value to help pay for an AP renewal.

3. It is very often a good plan to NOT "renew" an AP if you are not going to be going back within 2-3 months of the expiration.
But, instead, just buy a brand new AP the next time you are at WDW... one which would then have an expiration date one full year following that new purchase.

Renewing an AP always means that you must keep the old expiration date.
That's what a renewal means. Otherwise, it's a new ticket.

okay. probably not going to be doing that so sounds like i should stick with the original plan.

thank you for filling me in :)

I just renewed my AP online,so if all my magic bands and passes are now showing on the MDE website can I enter the park without going to a ticket booth.I know I will eventually to get my plastic ticket and holder showing discounts but if I just want to enter ASAP and put off the ticket booth for later, can I?

I don't think so. I usually get DVC APs. To activate them I'm required to go the window and give my purchase confirmation card as well as show my ID and member card. This requires a trip to the window before heading into a park. I assume all renewals require some proof the the person renewing is who they say they are (thereby qualifying for a renewal price), and therefore must also show up to the window with the purchase confirmation and an ID prior to entering the park.
