AKL has ceiling fans in each room, would this be enough?

Oh, boy! I can relate to that! DH is the same way. Every trip we go on, he brings along a little fan he bought at wal-mart. It fits in even our little 19" suitcase for overnight use. It's very small, desk size I think, or smaller. He started using that instead of a big fan in winter, so that is now the noise he is used to, and it works perfectly for him on trips. Maybe your wife can try that, too? We stayed at AKL a couple of years ago, and I've never heard of them offering fans. Good Luck!

Wow. There are other people out there just like us. We stayed at AKL in Dec, and we made a trip to Walgreens our first day and bought a small fan (not for the air circ, but for the noise). We managed to squeeze it in the carry on and brought it home.

The ceiling fan is nice, but not noisy at all. We can't sleep in a quiet room, and the AC makes no noticeable sound.

Enjoy!

the AC has motion sensors so you won't get enough noise from that. I can't sleep without a fan either. Save yourself a late night trip to Publix and bring your own. :p

I need the sound of a fan or AC to sleep also...By watching these boards I found out I was not alone..A thread poster recommended www.hammacherschlemmer.com They have a sound machine I paid 49.99 for it and I have slept soundly ever since. I brought it on my last trip to Disney. It is way smaller than a fan and I love it.

This does not circulate the air though.

Hope this helps:D :D :D

We also take our own when we travel. Dh and I both need one to sleep. You'd be surprised how much noise some of the smaller ones can make. Just go to Wal-Mart and start turning on all the fans. LOL No one will notice....Reaaally! ;) And they don't take up much room in your suitcase. Good luck!

Maybe you could start a fan swapping thread, just like the stroller/pal mickey/husband swap.:teeth:

DH is just like that. He can't sleep without a fan. When I first met him, I thought he was nuts. Well... 7 years and 2 kids later, everyone in the family needs a fan, even the kids!

We always bring a fan wherever we go. But if you can't bring a fan, try recording the fan's noise on a tape/cd. See if that works.

You can also get sound machines (I can't think of the brand) at Target, Walmart, etc. for about $25 (you can usually find them by the aromatherapy machines, the back massagers, the electric toothbrushes,etc.). We have one of these and one from Sharper Image that cost $100 (SI also has a really small travel sound machine/clock but it is something like $100) The cheaper one is a little smaller and therefore more "packable". Both have many different settings, one of which is "white noise" which sounds a lot like a fan.

I've got my whole family hooked on white noise, so we travel with the receiver portion of a baby monitor. It takes up virtually no space and does the job rather well! You can usually pick up a baby monitor pretty cheap, and remember the monitor portion doesn't even need to work, so quality isn't really a requirement! Yard sale or relatives may also be a good source for a cheap or free one.

Hope this helps!

You could use the ceiling fan for the circulation and turn the bathroom fan on that makes a good amount of sound.

I love this thread!!!

*I* have to fall asleep to "talk radio". For some reason music doesn't help. Makes it hard when some hotel radios can't get a decent signal from an AM station!!!

I am laughing out loud reading these posts, because this is so us!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
We did exactly that a few weeks ago Octoberbeauty!! My DH even moved one that was not plugged in, and unplugged another so we could hear how loud it was.
We ended up buying two fairly small, but yet high velocity metal fans to pack for our Sept trip. They were 9.96 each.

Even my kids use fans at night!
During our last trip to CSR, the AC was no where cool enough for us and our nights were miserable.
We decided then and there that our next trip WOULD HAVE FANS.
::yes::

We're a fan family too. Not for the noise, but for the circulation. Which Disney resorts have ceiling fans? We need it to sleep. (It's amazing how set in our ways we can become at such a young age. Imagine us when we are old foggies!)

Yep, the Hammacher-Schlemmer sound machine. I've been using mine for at least 13 years. It goes with me anytime I have reason to believe the AC fan won't make enough noise. Sounds like it's going to AKL!
