Remembering extinct foods

Cute thread!

Anyone remember Funny Face Drink Mix? It was a Kool-Aid rip off in flavors like Choo Choo Cherry, Injun Orange, Goofy Grape & "With it" Watermelon. With enough proof of purchases, you could even order mugs that resembled the faces of the characters on the packets!

YES!!!! My mom ordered the kids cups for my brother and I. She still has the Goofy Grape cup! I think my DS7 has used it when he was younger while visiting Grandma.

Oh and Drake's: Ring Dings, Yodels, Devil Dogs..remember when the Ring Dings and Yodels were wrapped individually in aluminum foil? And Yankee Doodles came in packs of 3.

Yep. My mom would always pack a Ring Ding in my lunch when I was in grade school (prior to our district getting hot lunch - ok, this was back in the late 1970's).

My favorite gum was the kind that came in Topps baseball cards. I don't think they put gum in baseball cards anymore. It was one thin strip of gum dusted with what tasted like sawdust. But we all loved it anyway, knowing a fruity surprise awaited after getting through that initial barrier.

Actually, some baseball cards still come with gum. Topps makes a line of cards called Heritage. They are current players but the cards look like cards of the 50's or 60's. The gum is still that pink cardboard-y powdery gum, but now they wrap it in plastic so the baseball cards don't get ruined.

You should have gotten your mom to demostrate again. You were making it wrong.....sounds like too much water, or impatience ;). Our noodles were always cooked properly and the sauce was never watery. Did you put some plastic wrap over the mug as the noodles "cooked"?

ETA: I think there was also a spaghetti one and I think a beef one. Does anyone remember?

Oh, gosh....I don't remember! That was....what, over 30 years ago?! I can't remember what I did yesterday! I just remember that this stuff was kind of stretch for being called macaroni and cheese!

I know...the dreaded phrase "I haven't read the entire thread, but..."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Pies. Pure, sugary, ickiness. I hated them, but my little cousins loved them.

My DH loved them, too, and he wasn't supposed to have them (he's diabetic).

Aspen Soda, Buried Treasure sherbet treats from the ice cream man, Carnation Breakfast Bars (I LOVED these...I ate one every day on my way to school in H.S. If it weren't for breakfast bars, I would have had nothing until lunch!)

...I didn't read through all the posts here, so mebbe this is a repeat, but does anyone remember those french fries "I-Don't-Like-Peas", "I-Don't-Like-Carrots" etc? They were a mixture of a not-so-popular veggie (like, carrots, beets, peas...) and potato, shaped into french fries....

How about Sizzlean? I remember that because it was one of the only things that I knew how to cook when I was younger. It was like bacon, but it wasn't. I'm not sure what it was that I was eating. It was good, though.

"Move over bacon. Make way for Sizzlean."

I say that to my husband when I'm sitting down next to him. He hates it.

oh my... there are so many things that I miss!

- Crispy Critters

They put in
Pink elephants, pink, pink elephants.
Pind elephants put 'em on your spoon.
Get lots of pink elephants real, real, soon.
In Post.............Crispy.................................CRITTERS!!!
The one and only cereal
than comes in the shape of animals.

....My grandma used to have windmill cookies....I don't remember what they tasted like, but I loved getting one anytime I went to my grandmas.

My Grandma always had these, too! Archway still makes them, if you're looking for them.

My mom used to buy Sizzlean...it was kind of plastic in texture, and didn't really taste much like bacon....

She also used to buy chicken hot dogs. BLAH!!:scared:

Also made by Keebler, but I can't remember the name. They were mini bite-sized chocolate chip cookies that were filled with fudge.

Yes, I think they were called Magic Middles, they were good! I miss Mellow Yellow and a cookie Nabisco made, IDEAL BARS! OMG, these were sooo good:worship: They were like crunchy peanut butter fudge covered in a dark chocolate. Anyone else remember them?

Oreo Big Stuff (and sadly, those big cookies at Goofy's are not the same)
Vellamints- but I think the only ones I ever ate were the chocolate ones
PurpleSaurus Rex Kool-Aid- it was grape lemonade! :thumbsup2!

Mmm, Velamints! My mom used to buy those all the time. I think the last time I had any, they were the chocolate ones, and it was probably 2001-ish. My personal favorite was the black licorice-flavored ones, though. Deliciousness!

I've tried the black licorice Altoids (got them at the tea shop in the UK at Epcot) and while they're darn tasty, they're just not the same.

Oh, and Pop Qwiz microwave popcorn! It was the kind that popped up a different color; you never knew which color you'd get until you opened the bag. For some reason, it always tasted much more buttery and delightful than normal microwave popcorn. I remember my mom buying a case of it for me to take to school my freshman year in college. I miss that stuff.

You know what I just remembered?

Frank's Soda!! It was we drank at my house for the longest time. The cream soda was the most awesome thing i ever had. Where the heck do i find that these days?
