Remembering extinct foods

I didn't read each page of this thread but am wondering what ever happened to the snack crackers called Munch'ems. They were just soooooo good & perfect in this snack cracker recipe my aunt has. We haven't been able to find them for the last several years.

The items I did see here though, sure do bring back memories!!

Loved Smurf Berry Cereal, that was my favorite. It was a treat to get that!

Jello pudding pops were great.

Love Bit-O-Honey, but it's still around.

I'm not sure if this is still around, but I used to really like Strawberry Yoo-Hoo. I don't see that flavor being sold anymore.

I used to love Mrs. Paul's frozen Shrimp Alfredo bowl. Add a little crushed red pepper to it, and.....YUM.

I also miss Planter's snacks in the can, especially Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls. They put anything Cheetos has come out with--with the sole exception of Cheetos Paws, which I don't think have been around in close to 20 years--to shame.

OK, I didn't read the entire thread, but OP, you must know that Hostess still makes Chocodiles, and they can be found at freshchocodiles.com...

My DH is a chocodileholic and I ordered a box of them for his birthday last year.

You can buy them in stores in Las Vegas. We have family that goes to Vegas for vacay each year and we beg them to bring a box back for us each year!

Does anyone remember screaming yellow zonkers. It was a yummy sugary popcorn snack that came in a black box that had all kinds of cute sayings on it. How about pixie stix basically flavored sugar in a straw.

For a PP how did you make your own pudding pops??? Those were the best thing EVER :worship:

My Mom made them, as far as I know she just made pudding and put it in the popsicle freezer things you can get at Target or Wal-Mart, you know, the ones people usually put juice or Kool Aid in? Well she would rinse them out and dump the water, spoon in the pudding and then stick in the tops and they came out great. I don't know if she made the pudding according to directions or not tho, I didn't really pay attention to that part. :)

I used to love Bit-O-Honey Candy---not sure if its still around...

The girls get this every year in their Halloween candy, they hate it so they usually toss it. LOL

Jello pudding pops have come back (or at least as of a year or two ago I was seeing them at the store again). But sadly, the formula is slighly different and they just aren't as good!

The food I remember was this strange powdered soup in a packet. It was cream of chicken soup (lipton?) in an individual serve packet. There were tiny hard croutons right in the powder and they sort of floated to the top when you mixed it with hot water. Sounds gross, but I loved that stuff.

I also remember these granola bars that had this thick kind of waxy substance in them... hard to describe. I think it was pure coconut oil/fat :scared1: No wonder they don't make them any more!

Still out there, it's with all the other powder soup mixes, I see it every time I buy Onion soup mix. We use Onion soup mix for a lot of stuff. :)

Oh remember Gatorgum? Blech!

ROFL!!! I DO!!!! It was good for about 30 seconds and then it was nasty!!!!

They do still sell chocodiles here so next time you want to come to Disneyland here then go to the 7-11 or something and stock up.

I also see Cadbury Eggs being sold at the 7-11 I am near but only during holidays, I can't find my pop rox or Suzy-Q's.

Pop Rocks? Go to the dollar store, I always see them there!

Does anyone remember Vienetta ice cream desserts? Those were so good!

I used to like Dreamsicle ice cream bars too.

I remember Vienetta, they were good!

Does anyone remember Charleston Chews? My sister and I would freeze them. We would practically break our teeth trying to eat it.

LOL I froze one once, then when I couldn't eat it I didn't do it again! LOL

For the PP who missed Coke with real sugar, try to find Mexican Coca-Cola on Amazon or at Sam's Club. They still make it with cane sugar.

We always get bottled Coke when we eat at a certain Mexican place, that Coke is the BEST!!!! I love soda made with sugar and not HFCS!

Does anyone remember a chocolate chip boxed cake mix? My mom would make that for me when I was a little girl on my birthdays.... It was soooo good. I'm sure I could re-create it ....but i just LOVE boxed cake mixes..lol....they are so easy:thumbsup2

Easy to make your own, just use a white cake mix and add your own choc. chips, I do it all the time.

Anyone remember those taffy sticks (made by Air heads, Laffy Taffy, or one of those taffy candies) from the late 80s-early 90s that were watermelon flavored and had little chocolate cookie "seeds"? I miss those :(

It was Laffy Taffy and yes, they had little seeds in them. :)

I'm not sure if this is still around, but I used to really like Strawberry Yoo-Hoo. I don't see that flavor being sold anymore.

Strawberry?? I don't think I've strawberry Yoo-Hoo, just chocolate. I do see strawberry Nesquik tho.

This is a little more recent - Cap'n Crunch Oops! All Berries. I remember reading the story on the back of the cereal box. Apparently there was a hostile takeover of the Crunch Berries factory by a group of derelict children. Well, they reconfigured the factory equipment so that the cereal boxes were only filled with crunch berries, and none of those yellow squares.

To me, it was pure nirvana. In the past, I would eat all of the yellow squares first and save the crunch berries for last. That way, my final bites would be filled with pure deliciousness. Now, with Oops! All Berries I could simply eat my breakfast cereal without a strategy.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. Somehow, the Cap'n regained control of his factory and we are now once again being force fed those yellow squares.

The more I read, the more I realized I was deprived. I didn't get kool-aid when I was young but had the lemonade kind when I was about 15. That stuff is delicious! There is no kool-aid in my house now though, come to think of it..I'm not sure my 9 year old daughter has ever had kool aid? And she's never had any Little Debbies snacks. Gosh, I'm evil as well.

Somebody mentioned Bit-O-Honey...those were/are delicious. I snatch them from the small amount of halloween candy my kiddo gets. Oooh, also Mary Janes!

My grandma used to have windmill cookies....I don't remember what they tasted like, but I loved getting one anytime I went to my grandmas.

Oreo Big Stuff (and sadly, those big cookies at Goofy's are not the same)
Vellamints- but I think the only ones I ever ate were the chocolate ones
PurpleSaurus Rex Kool-Aid- it was grape lemonade! :thumbsup2

My kids still get candy cigarettes from the ice cream man. They are called candy sticks now. But I haven't seen the bubble gum ones since I was a kid. They were actually more the shape/size of an actual cigarette, and had a candy powder in them that looked like smoke when you blew on it!

The little squares that shred the roof of one's mouth?

Does anyone still get Five Alive juice? I remember I used to drink it all the time when I was a kid. I can still taste it and wish I could find it. I don't think I've seen it in over a decade or more.

I LOVED the Reese's cup with the cookie center. It had yellow wrapping. I can taste that too. But the real thing would be better!

There were these white cookies (shortbread, perhaps) with a chocolate kiss in the middle. I don't like shortbread (buttery flavors are BLECH), but I must have loved it back then because I know I ate these often.

How about Sizzlean? I remember that because it was one of the only things that I knew how to cook when I was younger. It was like bacon, but it wasn't. I'm not sure what it was that I was eating. It was good, though.

Peanut Butter Boppers. These consisted of peanut butter like the kind inside a Reese's PB Cup, shaped into a log and coated with chocolate chips and crisped rice. Yum.

Tato Skins. Chips made by Keebler, which were made out of the skin of the potato and came in flavors like cheddar and bacon. :goodvibes

Also made by Keebler, but I can't remember the name. They were mini bite-sized chocolate chip cookies that were filled with fudge.

Not sure if they still make this, but Squeezit juice drinks. Bottle was made of soft plastic and you had to squeeze it to get the juice out.

in the 60's we ate cereal almost for 3 meals a day ( latch key kids).
absolutely LOVED corn flakes & strawberries. ( blueberries)

now they have other cereals with the dehydrated strawberries,, how come they won't bring back corn flakes!!

oh also miss hamburger helper chicken & biscuit gravy dinners

Was the juice like a gel type consistency?

They still made a Kool-Aid brand of squeezeit drinks and I remember that brand but I also remember a brand where the drink was like a gel...kind of like jell-o.

I used to like Five Alive and my brother loved it. I think I looked it up because I hadn't seen it either and read that it was only sold in Europe or something??

No, it wasn't a gel, just a juice that did taste a lot like Kool-Aid.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia and I guess Squeezit was discontinued in 2001...but I haven't had any since the early 90s.
