A long time ago at the Beach Club there was a cool restaurant called Ariel's. Sadly it closed but I started thinking about it latley and thought that this could be the thread where we post pictures and talk about previous experiences.

The restaurant itself still exists, and you can easily find it if you are the the resort. There's still an actice fish tank right inside the room. I think the spot might be used for parties?

I guess my biggest question of all is why did it close?

I have a book titled "wdw resort" it talks about this restaurant as well as disney village marketplace and mickeys starland along with the dixie hotel--I'm going to follow your thread to find out when all this was around so I can date the book--OP I hope you dont mind!

I don't know why it closed but it is used for wedding receptions and parties at WDW. I've never been there when they were open, but after looking at a fellow Disers wedding pictures, it's very pretty inside! (I love the different things hanging from the ceiling).

When we got engaged -- January '97 -- we had a celebratory dinner at Ariel's (Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie). We had planned our December '98 wedding reception in Ariel's, but when they stopped serving dinner sometime in early '98, the weddings dept. was concerned with rumors that the area was going to be renovated and turned into a shop and quick serve area, so we moved our reception to Atlantic Dance -- which was a fantastic location and we loved it!

That said, Ariel's is still around -- used for private events and, as I noticed on the schedule today, several weekly Food & Wine Festival Events will be held there.

We've seen a number of wedding receptions still held there when we are staying at the hotel :) Looks beautiful inside! :)

I wish I had some pictures but I don't. It was one of our first romantic meals at WDW and was soooo special. We were seated right next to the big fish tank which was pretty entertaining, but I felt a bit guilty when I ordered seafood for dinner. :p

I'm sure the fishies were crying out "I SEE DEAD FISHIES!" as they watched us tear into their pals. :lmao:

It's nice to know they still use the area for special events it's such a lovely place. :sunny:

.

We dined there twice before it closed. The first time they actually had a 3-piece combo strolling around playing music!!
I understand that they always REALLY wanted that space for receptions, etc and once Flying Fish became a reality, the need for a seafood spot was satisfied.
