Remakes - are they ever any good

This is, like, the sixth sign of the Apocalypse.

Really? You (I'm talking the general "you", of course, and not singling out you, specifically, MiniGirl) really think that remaking a perfect movie just so you can add some (very likely dodgy) updated CGI is an acceptable reason? Really, Stephen Spielberg (who I hear is enthusiastically on board this train wreck of an idea)? Well, then I guess Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn't exactly a fluke, was it?

Well, I don't think it signals the end of the world or anything quite so dramatic. LOL!!! I also thought that it would be a given that a remake of the movie would have to have great story-telling and not be ALL special effects. I guess I should have been more clear. A bad movie with great effects is still a bad movie, and yes, I would prefer the original be left alone if they couldn't recapture the things that made it so great in the first place.

Also, I never saw Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so I can't comment on that.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Ben-Hur with Charlton Heston was a remake, and I think that was pretty darn good!

I prefer the remake of The Stepford Wives and even though I've never seen the original Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, I really liked the recent version. One of my favorite movies from last year.

And, ummm... I like Jar Jar Binks.

Actually, I think it was a remake of a remake. (1907 and 1925).

Don't forget Airplane!

Based on the 1957 movie Zero Hour.

But that's not important now. ;)

I watched Zero Hour on Turner Classic Movies once, then they played Airplane! right after, talk about weird!! I liked Airplane! much better, but it was interesting how they took a (suppose) serious movie and made it such a satire.

I actually really liked Father of the Bride with Steve Martin. The orignal is good, but there is just something about the re-make that is a little more funny.

:) I think Hal Gurtner was just talking to the universe, not to you. Doing the "Really?" thing like on Saturday Night Live's news.

I'm having a hard time imagining a remake of Jaws, too...

I thought the remake of "Yours, Mine, and Ours" was good.

I did not like the new Willy Wonka movie, and was bummed that they changed the songs (not sure if it was all of them).

I did like the new Karate Kid, too.

Just read that a remake for The Warriors is in the works. Can you Dig it?

YEAH!!!

But really are there any gangs in NY anymore.
And most of the grafitti artist are making more money than me.
