Poinciana as a whole has gone way downhill over the years, but had great potential back in the 1990s. It has one of the highest foreclosure rates of any metro Orlando area. I would definitely recommend a drive through it before committing any money.
Crime is average.
Any school info can be found at
greatschools.org. Be aware that FL has 2 Poincianas, one in Osceola County, the other near Miami. Either way, reviews aren't pretty.
One last thing, and I don't know if it still applies. But, when I lived in FL, the road I feared driving on the MOST was Poinciana Blvd, leading from 192. At the time, it was a 2 lane road, really crowded, and had the highest number of head on collisions. The speed limit was 45 for the most part, but impatient folks take really bad chances on that road, passing people regardless of traffic.
Having lived in Clermont for 5 years, I am partial to that area. It has grown by leaps and bounds since we left. Clermont has decent schools and great shopping. The only drawback to Clermont is that it's not totally easy to get to Orlando, if you'll be working there. Since there are protected wetlands in the way, your only two choices are Highways 50 or 192 to I-4. It's a good 40-50 minutes.
