Relentless Forward Motion (a.k.a. Running towards 40)

What a great & varied week you've had! Am I reading your post right, that your phantom arch pain occurs in connection with your spinning class & not running? Strange.... Anyway, I hope it subsides without further issue.

You know what impresses me most--that after teaching your Pilates classes you look forward to taking them from other instructors. I mean, it makes sense in so many ways, but still....What's your favorite thing about taking a class in your area of expertise from someone else? Just curious.

Deb...yeah the foot pain came after the Spin class I was co-teaching. Anyway..I'm wondering if it's my new cycling shoes??? :confused3

As for teaching, I like to take other instructors' classes because for one thing I don't typically participate much in my own classes as I walk around and check form, make corrections, and use touch cues to help people find their proper form. So I still need the core workouts LOL! The other reason, is that I learn from other instructors...some have fabulous verbal cues, some are creative in their flow of exercises and some are just absolutely difficult teachers who force me out of my comfort zone and make me work hard LOL! I need that sometimes ;).

Linda...The foot positioning was a thought I had but I'm pretty experienced at road cycling so although I've only been spinning now for a few months I think I use proper technique. I don't toe down...but who knows what happens when we get tired LOL. I better have good form anyway since they just asked me to teach spin at one of the fitness centers where I work! The training will be soon so I can add that to my already busy teaching schedule :). Anyway....my thought is leading to the shoes or possibly just a physiological thing on my part. I was born with messed up feet and ankles...so I have a lot of weakness which leads to tendonitis type injuries in my lower legs. My left is worse than my right so I think that it might be an inflamed tendon possibly. It's not horrible and it hasn't really affected my runs so I"m hopeful it will work itself out.

THANK YOU for asking about my DD. She got her casts off TODAY :cool1: ! Her arms are skinny and weak :(. But she's already out there practicing softball tonight. She has a bit of a way to go...but hopefully she'll regain her strength quickly.

As for me...I hit the trails today and did a wooded, HILLY trail run. My pace was molasses slow but after teaching 4 classes yesterday, spinning and tough windy conditions I guess I can't complain too much about my pace. I did allow myself some walk breaks, scenery breaks (had to peek over the side of the hill once) a general "taking it easy" stride...it's not surprising that I clocked in slower than I expected. But the steps are in *check*. Tomorrow will be a cardio day and an hour plus with my Pilates trainer. Should kick my butt pretty good! :thumbsup2

 Hi Scott! Thanks for stopping by buddy ol' pal!

Hi Amy,

You exhaust me. I am amazed at the pace you set for yourself.:thumbsup2 I hope the foot pain does not reoccur.

Congrats to DD for getting right back out there and practicing. Sounds like she is just like you.

Take care,
Beth

Yay! I'm so glad she's gotten her casts off! I know you both must be very happy about that! What a trooper! Already out there practicing her softball!

It's really too bad we don't live closer! I'd love to take your classes! I bet you are a great teacher. I tried spinning once and it nearly killed me. How cool that they have asked you to teach spinning too. Are you excited about that?

Sounds like you had a fun trail run. Scenery. ahhh. How nice!

You are doing awesome! I am in awe of your weekly workouts! You really set a great example!

Stacie

That's great that your DD has gotten her casts off!

Your workouts amaze me, Amy!:thumbsup2

Hope you have a great day today!

Hi there amy!! Just checking in on my fellow bunny! :)

Hi everyone  ... thanks for checking in on me...

I'm feeling really wiped out from 21 (yes..that's ridiculous) days of continuous exercise. Yesterday's 5 Mile run was pretty tough...the body just felt kind of beat up. Today I'm having a rest day since I'm babysitting my 5 month old niece  . Forced rest days are good ;). We went for a slow and easy 3 mile walk but even that felt tough.

Here is the week that was...

Monday: Taught 3 Classes
Tuesday: Taught/Took Spinlates plus taught three additional classes
Wednesday: 5 Mile Trail Run...was hilly and windy..pace was 10:32 mpm
Thursday: Pilates w/ my Trainer; 30 Minutes on the bike trainer
Friday: 3 Mile Tempo run (8:13 pace) YES..it was fast. An additional mile cool-down. Plus...15 minutes pilates video AND taught Pilates Tone class.
Saturday: 45 minutes on the bike trainer; taught pilates
Sunday: 8 mile trail run was BRUTAL...somewhere around 10 mpm.

Ran: 17 Miles
Biked: 32 Miles
Pilates: 6 plus Hours

Definitely was a busy week. And this one is no different :). Did two hours of pilates yesterday and did a 5 Mile trail run. I hope to make it to spin class, run a 4 miler w/ hill repeats and possibly even take an additional yoga or pilates class. Hope everyone has a great week! :sunny:

I have no idea how you can hold all the different thoughts in your head while you teach a class--the moves, the pace, students' needs, flow. And then to be able to take a class and notice these things, evaluating them as much as you follow the class. Wow. :worship: I'm just comfortably stupid when I work out.

Congrats on being approached about teaching spinning. You'd be an incredible instructor to take a class with. Although you might scare people off is you started class with an introduction like, "I'm really wiped today because I've had 21 continuous days of exercise" and then proceeded to kick some booty. (Which you know you could do, if you wanted! ;) ) After all, you may have taken your forced rest day, but you're planning additional yoga and pilates classes.

Um, now I need to leave & add another WO session to my day. Hmm...I wonder why that thought came to mind? :confused3 :rotfl:

Hi Amy,
Geez sounds like your body needs a little rest.21 days cannot be good for anyone even if you are used to it.I guess it does become tough to take days off when it is your job though.

Happy to hear about your DD, sounds like a trooper.

Thanks for the congrats on the 1/2, I was not sore and I did only the water stops on the course- I found I cannot run and drink and I think I screwed up some of my time at the stops. But happy that I did it, now on to the Disney!I could not imagine at that point doing 13.1 more-WOW!

Take care,
Linda

Amy
I have a question for you- Why is the clock time and the chip time so different? I was looking at the results from the 2008 1/2 and was confused.

Thanks,
Linda

Hi Linda...

It's impossible for everyone to be on the starting line when the race starts (clock time) and it may take you 5 minutes to cross the line and once you do that's your chip time :).

Hi Amy,

You are such an inspiration. I am glad that you were forced to take a rest day though. You don't want to get so worn out that you end up with an injury or ill. I have to agree. I would love to take a class from you.

Have a fantastic weekend,
Beth

You are an amazing woman, Amy! Great job getting all of those workouts in! :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

thanks everyone for stopping by my journal .

I have to say this past week was really tough. Not just in terms of the exercise (although yes, by Tuesday I was pretty wiped out)...but with my kids' schedules and trying to juggle work and major conflicts with their activities, doctor appointments and volunteering etc. My parents are away in St. Martin (JEALOUS ME), and I rely heavily on them for helping out, especially with softball since my kids are on 3 teams between them. My dad actually coaches my DD10's travelling softball team so he really handles the MANY practices and games for me with that one :). But without them, along with other responsibilities I've taken on, and having to rely on the kindness of friends and neighbors just totally stressed me out. It was really hard leaving games to go teach my evening classes...then trying to be upbeat and positive for my clients. Tonight I'm awake feeling lousy (some sort of stomach bug or something). So I thought I'd post and whine on here since I have nobody IRL to whine to right now  .

OK...pity party is over. And believe me...I know so many of us on here are juggling crazy kids' schedules and tough life situations. I'm fortunate to have as much help as I do. And I'm sure to tell my parents when they get home how much I appreciate their help. :goodvibes

I'm supposed to run 10 miles later today. Not sure that is going to happen :(. What a bummer. We'll see...but don't worry I'll be smart ;). Thanks for listening to me ramble tonight guys! :grouphug:

:grouphug: Amy!!! Everyone has those days (or weeks in some cases! LOL) :lmao: But, It's fine to come here and whine. thats what we are here for!! :thumbsup2 I only have one dd so i can't even imagine what it's like to have any more! LOL One's enough for me. :rotfl:

Hope you are feeling better today!! :wizard:

I would not call it whining I would call it "therapy." I swear when you write something out it seems to help alot. Not to mention the many friends you have here on these boards.

Yes thank your parents, when my kids were younger my parents helped out so much too because my DH traveled alot, they were invaluable-and there is nothing more special than a good grandma and grandpa in my opinion.

Hey if I knew you were up at 3am we could have chatted-arrrrh!hormones!!!!!!

Hope you feel better.Isn't it nice to have some short worthy weather out there?

Linda

 Amy,

I hope you are feeling a bit better today.

You absolutely have every right to whine all you need to. Lord knows, I've done more than my fair share lately. You juggle so many things all at once, and it is wonderful that your parents are available to help you out. This week it all fell on you, and you got a bit overwhelmed. That is understandable. Your life isn't stress-free, so it is ok to complain about feeling stressed. I wish I could do more to help you than just listen.

How is your stomach feeling?

Let us know how you are, when you get the chance.

Beth
