Relentless Forward Motion (a.k.a. Running towards 40)

Amy,

I have to say that even your "off" weeks impress me. I know it's a little light compared to your usual, but I just can't imagine handling all the things you do.

I'm sending some :goodvibes your way so that you can avert any nasty illness that might get in your way. Not that you wouldn't just steamroll right over it. :cool1:

I'm so glad that Chi Running is working for you. I continue working on it and I believe it's a solid practice to follow; I just don't have enough experience to know how well it's working because I'm such a beginner. Speaking of beginner, I got the Pilates for Dummies DVD. It's very helpful--thanks for recommending it! :thumbsup2 I'm gonna commit to my core yet!

Finally, yeah for locating the motivation. I knew you'd find it!

Thanks Debs! You're such a ray of sunshine here on the disboards. Thank you so much for visiting my journal. :goodvibes

And impressed....heck...YOU impress me girl! You help keep me motivated with all your impressive workouts and cross training. I love keeping up with your weekly training!

Thanks Scott, Stacie, Tracy and Kimbo for visiting my journal!

OK...weekly recap. First let me say it was kind of an emotional/stressful week for me. Starting with my DD10 ending up double casted one on each arm. Fortunately she is SUCH a trooper...she amazes me all the time :). Then a dear family friend of mine passed away from a brain tumor..she struggled so much the past few years and I've known her since childhood. Anyway...she was just one of the kindest most wonderful people I've ever met and what happened to her was just so unfair :(. Now yesterday I just found out that a former High School acquantance (was friends with her bro and sis) died after a horrible battle with Colon Cancer. She was just 35 and left behind a young son and husband :sad1: . I saw that she had become a runner...and had completed several 5Ks as recently as a year ago. Life is just so precious :(.

OK...'nuff of the sad stuff. Here's my weekly report...

Mon: Bad day...did not exercise
Tues: Taught one class
Wed: TOTAL LTO day...Nada :(
Thurs: 4 Mile Run; 10 Miles on the Bike Trainer; 30 minute pilates; stretching
Fri: 2.8 Mile Hill Repeats; 10 Miles on the Bike Trainer; 30 minute pilates, Taught/took 60 min class.
Sat: Taught class; 5 Mile Walk
Sun: 8 Mile Run; stretching

Run/Walk Miles: 19.8
Bike Miles: 20
Pilates/Yoga: 150 Minutes

Run Reports: Thurs (4 Mile avg. 9:45 mpm hilly neighborhood run); Fri (Hill Repeats x 4 @ .50, .49, .48, .46 PLUS two miles warm up/cool down); Sat (slow 5 Mile walk); Sun (8 Mile avg 9:45)

Hey buddy  I'm sorry to hear about those you knew who passed last week. It's never easy dealing with anything like that and my heart goes out to you. Really scary about the lady who ran a 5k a year ago...you are right though about life being precious. All we can do is live as healthily as we can, enjoy the things we want to enjoy and unfortunately some of it is just up to fate.

Here is to a bright future together on the trails and in the races *searches for toasting wine glass smilie*

Sorry about the rough week as a whole, but I think you did a great job rebounding!! You jumped right into speedwork and then a solid 8 miler today and I think that's awesome. GOOD JOB buddy!!

Let's have a fun, relaxed week of training...

And remember I'm here to talk if you need an ear :)

Hi Amy. I'm so sorry to hear about the losses of your friends! You are right. Life is very precious and it's easy to forget that until something tragic like this happens. I really hope this upcoming week is a much better one for you!!! (((HUGS)))

Stacie

 Amy,

I am sorry to hear about your friends. Their families will be in my prayers.
How is DD managing. It must be frustrating for everyone.

I think you did really well this week. With the events of the week, you still manamged to get some exercise in. That is a victory some when RL gets in the way.

 Amy,

It sounds like last week was a tough week. I am so sorry to hear about your friends.:sad1:

I hope the week ahead is a good one for you. Please be sure and take good care of you!

Personally, I plan to NOT obsess over turning 40. I want to run and exercise into 40...crashing into this new decade with vigor and making it the best one of my life. I want to feel strong and healthy. I want to enjoy my kids. I want to live life to the fullest. The last few years have been magical for me and I hope to continue that trend!! :sunny:

I have been here in the journal section maybe 3 times in the past 3 years and never commented.

Amy...I LOVE THIS!!!!!!

Hi Amy
I am so sorry to hear what you have been through these last days.hope your DD is doing OK handling that.I would be very frustrating I am sure.

Linda

Hi guys...

Thanks for all the thoughts and well wishes. My DD is doing just fine...she's even playing her trumpet with casts on both arms  . Not sure how she does it...but the sound is coming out LOL. So good for her! :thumbsup2 Three more weeks to go then hopefully the casts will be off for good!

The memorial service was beautiful last night. It was a fitting tribute to a very special person. Just to show how much of an impact she had in our community...there were 400 people in attendance. I feel honored to have called her a friend. I've known her since I was little...and watching her face the trauma of a disfiguring and debilitating form of cancer was heart breaking. It was a sad night.

OK...so I've been training a bit this week. Had a LONG day of workouts culminating in a really good run on Tuesday. Managed to hit my 4 miles at a tempo pace of 9:04 mpm. Didn't intend to run fast..the stars just aligned ;). I also did 2+ hours of pilates that day. Thus...yesterday I was sooo sore LOL. I did take a rest day babysitting for my infant niece and then later heading to the memorial.

Later today I'm going to take a spin class (possibly) and then head up to teach my Pilates class.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!

Hey Amy! Glad to hear how well your daughter is doing! WOW! Playing the trumpet. That's awesome for her.

400 people...wow. It's always so sad to see someone we are close to go through something so horrible.

I hope you had a happy day with your neice! Sounds like you had an awesome run! yay!

Stacie

Hey Amy---sorry to hear that the last couple of weeks have not been so good. So sorry to hear about those that passed away. Losing one person is hard enough, let alone 2 in one week. My thoughts are with you.

Glad to hear your DD is doing well. TWO CASTS!! wow...poor thing! Glad to hear she is still able to play her trumpet though...that is a positive.

Hang in there....keep up the good work with your training, you never cease to amaze me!!!

Hi, Amy! So sorry that the past few weeks have been rough for you! I'm glad your daughter is feeling better - it sounds like she is a chip off the old block, still going even with two casts!

My condolences on the loss of your friends - it is always hard to lose someone you love, no matter the circumstances. Take comfort in the good memories you have of them and that they are no longer suffering.

Sounds like you are still putting in the miles and the hours - no surprise there! Hope the weather warms nicely where you live and that it makes it easier to get out and get in the goals you've set for yourself.

Thank you for checking in on me in my journal - so sorry life got in the way and I went MIA, but I wrote a book today! Anyway, thanks very much for the support. Have a great weekend!

Susan

awwww, you called me Kimbo. :goodvibes I had a friend a long time ago that called me that. You just brought back some awesome memories for me. :thumbsup2 Feel free to call me that anytime.

OK, on to you.

I am SO sorry for the losses you've had lately. Sounds like they were both strong, wonderful people.

You're training and workouts continue to inspire me. :worship: I don't know how you do all you do, but just thinking of you some days gets me out there to work out (the little bit I do  ).

I wish you and your family a wonderful Easter!

Happy Hippity Hoppity!!

Sweet job with the runs this week. You put in a couple fast weekday runs and still mixed in your pilates, spin, other cardio and even weights! Nice work there Relentless McFitness :goodvibes:

Hope you and the kids have a happy Eeeaaassster.

Hey Amy! Just checking in on you. How was your weekend? Your LR?

Hope you've had a good weekend!

Stacie

 Amy,

I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your support.

I hope you had a nice Easter and a great weekend. How was your long run?

take care of yourself,
Beth

Hi Guys...sorry for neglecting the journals :upsidedow

My week in review...

First the boring stuff...

Mon
: Taught 3 Pilates classes
Tues: 4 Miles 36:16 (9:04 mpm); 1 hr. 15 min with my Trainer; Taught 2 classes
Wed: Rest Day :)
Thurs: Spin Class; Taught 1 class
Fri: 4 Miles Tempo Run 36:27 (3 miles at 8:49 w/ a 10 mpm warm up and cool down); Taught 1 class
Sat: 30 Minutes Ski Machine; 20 Minutes weight training; Taught 1 class
Sun: 6 Mile Run in 55:30 (9:15 mpm).

So, I can't say that I did anything nearly as impressive as Scott. (Yay! Scott for your PR on Saturday!!!) But I did put in a solid week. Unfortunately my Sunday run was BRUTALLY difficult...and though the pace doesn't reflect it...the run was just awful. I was scheduled to hit 8 Miles but turned around at the 3 Mile mark as the legs were really aching. There are days when I question my sanity when it comes to running. My main goal for this year is to continue to get faster, run a solid 5K race in a decent time (yes...I'm always in pursuit of Scott's pace), and post PRs for the Half Marathon and Full Marathon. So I have a lot of hard work in the future weeks and months to achieve my running goals. I hesitate to post actual time goals...so I won't. But at least one PR this year will make me happy! :)

I taught a Spinlates class today (well at least the "lates" part) and it was great fun. PLUS I got some good cardio in to boot! :thumbsup2 Tomorrow will be an attempt at a decent 5 Mile "easy" run. We'll see how that goes!

I'll try to get to everyones' journals a bit later. THANK YOU for all the support
