DH and I went out for a quick bite last night and the guy next to us sent back his first glass of wine after he tasted it, then a second. The waiter came back with a bottle and he didn't like that either...sent it back. He then came out with one that was acceptable to his liking.
I thought you were only supposed to send wine back if it went to vinagar? Not just because you didn't like the taste of it.
These two people ordered huge amounts of food IMO and one man didn't say a word, the "rejector" was very condescending with the waiter in every aspect imaginable.
He probably gave him a $2 tip...if you know what I mean:rolleyes:
So does anyone know the rule on ordering wine?

Once the box is open...you bought it

I always want to scream sexism because DH is always automatically chosen to be the "wine taster."

Sending Back a Wine
Seldom will you ever have to send back a wine, but there are occasions when you should:

*The wine should always be opened at the table. If it is not, send it back.
*The waiter should present the bottle to you before opening. *Make sure the wine is the one you ordered. The producer's name and vintage year should be the same as what you requested.
*When the waiter hands you the cork, check it. It should not be dry, broken or moldy.
*The waiter should pour a small sample to taste in the glass of the person who ordered the wine. Send the wine back if it tastes like vinegar or mold.

That being said, it's still not an easy thing to send back a wine. Sending back a wine can be even more daunting than ordering it! If you are unsure if the wine is off, ask the waiter to taste the wine: if he or she appears unsure, a new bottle should be forthcoming. If this method fails, ask for the manager. You are perfectly entitled to return a bottle that you, the customer, considers unfit for consumption. However, this does not allow you to return a wine simply because you did not like it—you need to be sure that it doesn't taste right.

We used to have the same problem, but we have found that most of the time whoever orders the bottle is selected as the taster. Since I order most of the wine when we go out, I am the taster. Now a lot of places still automatically hand the wine list to DH, but that is another story.

I have sent back glass/bottle because it was bad, but not because I did not like it! Pretty rude to do that.
