Regrets?

We've added on since 1996 and still love it. We added our son and DIL to our direct contract so they can continue to enjoy long after we're gone. We have close to 500 points which is not nearly enough and we will add on again if we find the right contract!

No regrets; buying DVC was the best thing we ever did for our family (other than the normal feeding, sheltering, educating, of course). But we did think about it for nearly 4 years and 4 visits to WDW, until it was clear to us that we wouldn't be able to visit every year as we wanted to unless we did buy. We were also fortunate to have opportunity to travel elsewhere every year in addition to WDW, so we weren't "trapped" by DVC.

My firm opinion is that the value of DVC is in the longterm, as hotel room prices rise. As far as we're concerned, our DVC stays now cost us dues only - the buyin was long since amortized and out of the budget - but even including the buyin cost divided by number of years on the contract when we bought + current dues, our cost to stay is way, way lower than discounted cash or rental prices.

Bought 270 points at BWV last year. No regrets! So excited about planning a Christmas trip. However, I have to admit that a big gap between ideal and reality. I thought that 270 points are good enough for us to stay at BWV standard room for two weeks. But, it is too hard to get the standard.
Maybe I need to add more points...

I would have split my 250 BWV points into 150 and 100, so when VGC came along I would have sold the 100 and bought 100 there. I regret not finding a way to buy it when it opened. I did buy a VGC resale 2 years ago but paid twice as much as the original.

I'm only one year in - no regrets. I did a lot of research but I would say I've learned two things....
1 - I didn't buy enough points. Get a larger contract and take advantage of the lower prices that usually come with that. I have already added on and could have saved money.
2 - I didn't pay much attention to use year and I wish I had. I figured out that my most consistent travel dates are actually in the window between banking and end of use year. Wish I would have paid attention to it on the front end.

No regrets at all! I bought when it was low in 2012 and doubled my points last year at the higher prices too. Best DVC purchase was a 80 VGC direct contract at $140 pt ( wish I bought more of those too though). We are planning on buying 3 - 75 point contracts at the DLT when it goes on sale for my kids to gift down the road.

We bought 3-100 point VGC direct contracts to pass down to our kids too. We got a great deal in 2010 at $96/point after incentives, plus we got double the annual points for the first year. It was so much fun using up 600 points during our first year of membership.
In 2020, we bought a 270 point subsidized Aulani contract.
We don’t have any regrets buying into DVC.

Wish I bought earlier to get 25 direct blue but the choice and amount of resorts and when we bought was perfect for our family.

One loaded contract went up ~$40pp already (stripped pricing now) within a year. The other one is up about $11 up but I don’t anticipate selling that one! I am so grateful we got what we did when we did.

the question is will I regret it if I don’t get another. Lol

No regrets at all for the reasons others mentioned above. I bought VGC direct and at the time, the purchase price was high. However, resale is now more expensive than what I paid for direct at the time. It's nice having a 1 BR when we visit and to be in close proximity to the parks, especially as I get older. And this summer I will be taking my mom and my niece and nephew with us, which is something I probably wouldn't have been able to do if I didn't have DVC. My son is also an only child and I like that as he gets older, he will be able to bring a friend along and we will have enough space. We are lucky to be in a position to do that.

I don’t regret buying-my VGC contract is lovely and would sell for more than twice what I paid for it in 2017, and we picked up a direct contract when you only needed 25 points to qualify. However, the bloom is a bit off the rose for me with Disney right now. I need to start planning a 22 or 23 trip and I feel very meh about it-for the first time since I went to DL for my first time when I was 12 (and I turned 52 this week) I am not excited to plan a trip. The less bang for more bucks Disney strategy isn’t ringing my bells.

With rack rates increasing fast, absolutely no regrets buying. Just wish we bought more when prices weee lower.

OT but am I the only one who hears Frank Sinatra singing "Regrets, I've had a few..." every time they see this thread?

Do any of you have regrets buying DVC and what aspect have you found the most challenging?
I don't regret any decisions, but looking back on it I'm struck by how poorly I was able to predict my vacation habits more than a handful of years in advance. We had a bunch of things change the way we vacationed that I didn't expect to happen. It all worked out and we took plenty of vacations, both together and separately, but it required some flexibility.
