Another post made me think of what foods we have that are distinctly regional. I did a search and was shocked that this hasn't been discussed (if it has feel free to delete mine). So what are your regional foods that originate from your locale? I have 2 locales as I'm from Detroit but live in Boston. Eating is one of my favourite parts of travel, so let's hear what ya'll eat to give us a reason to visit.

In Detroit we had:
Vernors
Better Made Potato Chips
Faygo pop
Coney Islands
Detroit Style Pizza
Boston Cooler
Zip sauce
(Yeah, Detroit is a GREAT place to eat)

In Boston we have:
Moxie soda
Lobster rolls
Black and White cookies (which @Buzz Rules has told me I need to try so here it is)
Clam Chowder
Necco Wafer
Boston Cream Pie
Fenway Frank

I'll add my list later, but wanted to comment on your list. The best pizza we've ever eaten was in downtown Detroit. The other states/cities that tout their pizza as the best have some serious competition. ;) We also had a nasty Detroit pizza in Wisconsin, but what do you expect?

I'll have to keep the things on your list that we haven't tried in mind for the next time we're in either location.

Scrapple here in PA/NJ. I don't know if it's sold all over the country or if it's popular elsewhere. I love it sliced thin and fried in a little butter, then served on a kaiser roll with a runny egg. Now I want some.
Liver mush appears to be a big deal in our part-time location. I grew up two counties away, but had never heard of it. Apparently, liver mush & scrapple are kinda sorta similar. When I decide to give it a try, I'll try it your way.

Philly here:

Cheesesteaks
Soft pretzels for breakfast
Tastykakes
Herrs chips
Scrapple (not that I recommend it LOL)
Pork roll (it's not Taylor Ham)
Whoopie pies
Shoo fly pie

I'll edit if I think of more items to add..
We take pork roll, a fried egg, and a slice of American cheese and serve it on an English muffin. Homemade McMuffins! They taste great.

i don't know that it's distinctly regional to where i live but some common things here that i never experienced living elsewhere (or traveling elsewhere for the most part)-

huckleberry EVERYTHING-fresh, frozen, ice cream, syrup in your coffee, bbq rubs....you name-they've huckled it (we even have a chain of grocery stores that goes by the name),

game meat-i know bison has become more mainstream and you see more places across the u.s. offering it up (usualy for burgers) but i enjoy it at local places that use it in place of ground beef for other dishes (chili, meatloaf...). elk is making it's mark as well-in appetizers and entrees at several local restaurants.

I wish I wasn't so afraid of driving in more urban areas because I think I'd really like to try most of the things on your list. :)

Dozens of Mexican Restaurants claiming to serve authentic Mexican food. None prepare the same dishes the same, and none are like the food I had in Mexico.
