I am right in the middle of my Tauck Bridges trip to London and Paris. We went to see Oliver tonight and it was totally not appropriate for children. There was a lot of very graphic representations of sexual activity clothed but very vulgar. And then the beating murder of a young woman. Also, several of the actresses were overflowing from their dresses around the neckline. There were children in our group as young as seven. I just had to vent. Why didn't I book adventures by Disney?

Oh, my! My guess would be that nobody from Tauck actually *saw* the show, and they assumed it was like the movie (although even that is a bit questionable!) That's another thing you wouldn't have to worry about with ABD! They take you to *Disney* shows!

I hope you're enjoying the rest of your trip!

I've seen Oliver! (in London) and taken children (ages 8 and 10). I had no problems with the show at all (I've seen it a couple of times).

There were tons of children in the audience (and in the show).

Unless they have changed the production, I wouldn't have had any thoughts about taking children to the show.

Obviously, opinions are personal but it is possible that the Tauck people did see the show but found it okay for children.

Wow! Call me impressed! :) That's some quick response!

Sayhello

I'm impressed as well. I've NEVER gotten that quick a response from Disney on anything! OTOH, kinda big-brothery too. Tammy, did you tell Tauck you'd be posting here, or are they monitoring us?

How do you like the rest of your trip so far? And have you done an ABD to compare it to?

FWIW, I still have not let DD12 see any version of Oliver. I just think there are too many "issues" with it. Especially the "as long as he needs me" story line. Actually, that's not true about any version - I did let her watch Disney's Oliver and Company :rotfl:

Isn't that interesting? Sigh, I wish there had been computer technology when I had gone to school. It would be so cool to be completely comfortable with it. I somehow think I will forever be behind the curve on what exactly is possible online.

Which actually leads to a funny, completely non-thread-related story. DH and I went to a weekend getway last month that included a lovely meal at a shared table with several other couples. Six of these folks were a family - mom, dad, their two grown kids and their spouses. The grown kids were still pretty young, as I found out....Somehow the topic of where everyone had gone to college came up, and when one young lady found out where DH and I had gone, she brightened up and said that she almost went there because that school gives incoming freshman a free laptap. And did they do that when we were there? I had to gently explain to the sweet little thing that laptops hadn't been invented when we went to college.

TammyAlphabet, we returned from our Tauck vacation earlier this week. When you get home, I would love to hear what you thought about the rest of your tour. I hope the rest of the trip turns out better for you.

Sorry this wasn't what you expected... hope the rest of the trip gets better...

Come and visit us when you get back!!! :thumbsup2

I just returned from the Disney London/Paris Gateway yesterday (and will post more later). I went with my 9-year old to Oliver in London last week (instead of Lion King) and he loved it--as did I. Besides a great song book, the staging was incredible. No doubt, near the end there is an intense scene and Bill Sykes is one scary guy, but the "risque" elements were truly minor and can't imagine anything kids would pick up on. I thought it was a great show and appropriate and thrilling for families, although the scene near the end might be upsetting or prompt questions.

Hello all. I am reporting on my experience only, others may have totally different views. My daughter is 12, so she may have been more prone to pick up on it than younger children. I can't speak for them. I thought it was just totally vulgar and offensive. At one point, a large breasted woman had a man's face rubbing in her cleavage. One scene had two men holding a woman off the ground, one holding the arms and another holding the legs, as he stood between the legs. Then they both gyrated their hips back and forth one towards her head and then the other towards her other end. I am sorry to be so graphic but I just want to clarify what I took offense to. These were not the only actions that I thought were over the top for a "family-oriented" show. I guess I might be a prude though.

As for the rest of the trip, the only really outstanding part of the trip was that we got into each of the attractions with extremely short wait times. That was nice. The hotels were nice, but for each of the hotels I stayed in, I had a view of a stone or brick wall. Not exactly what I was expecting given the price I paid for this trip. The tour director was very nice and helpful and actually commented on her experience in the "Disney" college program. She was a gem. The time we spent at the attractions was quite short though. The food was generally good. There was an occasional poor meal but I think that was cultural differences more than anything else.

I think two tour directors, like Disney has, would have been nice. But certainly not necessary on this particular trip. The large majority of people along for the trip were nice and friendly.

I did not see a great effort by Tauck to design activities at the sights we visited to especially engage the children. I have read the itinerary for the ABD and they seems to do a better job in this regard, with children's guides to the louvre and the colosseum. Tauck did not have any activities like this.

Maybe I am spoiled by Disney cruise line level of service.

As with anything, YMMV. I will probably not travel with Tauck bridges again, not because it was bad, it was not bad, it was really nice. I think I will get more bang for my buck with ABD. This is my opinion only. Thanks for reading.

Tammy, thanks for your thoughts on your Tauck trip. I have been looking at the Bridges Africa trip, and while I will continue to give it consideration, I will take your thoughts into account as well. We have only done one ABD, and we were so well taken care of, I would hate to spend big $ for Tauck, and not be spoiled.

thanks,

Dahly

I got a letter from Tauck today. They sent me a refund of 300 because our river boat ride on the last night of the ship left very late according to the schedule. It sounded like they were refunding money to all of those on our trip. They did comment on my concerns over the show "Oliver". I am still not sure I will travel with Tauck again but I thought this was nice of them. It would have to be a much much better price than ABD.

Tammy

Sounds like pretty amazing customer service, for Tauck to spontaneously refund money to travelers after the trip ended. Not that I'm excusing the problems with Oliver, but I've never heard of Disney refunding money after an ABD that had problems.
