Please Help,:confused3
Have Enclosed Fire Rules Changed?
I am hoping to obtain an answer from recent tent campers. This will be our third visit to Ft. Wilderness in tent camping site. On our 1st trip we were advised no fires. When we arrived we found out that enclosed fires were allowed. Our 2nd trip we traveled with a Coleman enclosed fire and we were allowed to use it no problem. It has a top and enclosed sides. Now, it seems I am being told no fires...just like our 1st visit when we still saw enclosed fires.

Can you advise the current policy and if anyone has recently used an enclosed fire at the Ft. Wilderness tent campground area. I know they have a group fire by the movies but really enjoy a private fire... we are coming for Thanksgiving and would love to know.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.:yay:

Kind Regards,
Karen

I wouldn't be surprised if was because of the drought. Florida is very dry right now and until recently you couldn't even have campfires in the state parks (and not all were released from the ban).

Just returned from the Fort this past Tuesday. Absolutely NO fires.

We also are going for Thanksgiving and love having our own fire. I called FW and after a bit of a runaround ( why do they need my name to answer a simple question?:confused3 ) I was told that no personal fires are allowed because it is the "dry season". Oh well, will probably be too tired in the evenings anyway.

and yup Smokey The Bear says "no fires". It is way too dry for that right now. It is a downer but as beautiful as the Fort is I would hate for it to burn down and it would go up in seconds if it is as dry there as it is here in SW Fla.

hmmm. i called last week(wed or so) and was told by the front desk that as long as it had a mesh screen over the top it was ok. i have not heard of any open fire bans here, but dont know about orlando area.

CM's are not always the best sources of current info, believe it or not.

The best bet is to check the bulletin boards at every comfort station. If there is a fire ban, it will be posted there. When we were there from 17-27 October, a ban was in effect.

Hello All,
I spoke with an employee that works at the campground regarding an unrelated item. I asked him and he said on his way to work he saw a blazing fire in a fully enclosed fire pit. He said he didn't know the current rules...only what he saw. He said no one stopped them and he could see it from his work station all evening. So...It is still anyones guess. We were told absoluley no fires in the past, only to see enclosed fires. By enclosed I mean they needed to be fully enclosed with a lid and mesh/screen sides. There are a few brands like that. So we will bring ours along and see what happens. I am from Florida and aware of dry conditions.

Thank you for everyones input. I really appreciate it.

We just returned from a weekend at the Fort. We brought our enclosed fire pit (removable mesh top) and had no problem. We had it on the paved part of our campsite. Two CM's came down the loop on separate occasions (one to fix the light at our site number post) and no one said anything. We saw others doing the same thing in our loop.

You were very LUCKY! If I were to see that ILLEGAL fire pit I would have confiscated it.

GO NOLES!!:sad1:

Thank you GatorDad...very glad to hear your actual experience. We are so excited about our trip and plan to pack our enclosed fireplace. Thanks a Bunch:cool1:

We were just there end of Oct. we brought an enclosed pit, with a mesh screen on top just for FW. We called them and one CM came and checked out and told us it was OK.

Thanks for the info. I actually was going to ask this same question here this week, cause I was wondering if people were currently having fires.

This is great news, and I am very much looking forward to some fire watching/beer drinking ;)

No matter if it's ok right now or not I order this man be arrested. If he had started this thread I would also order it be locked for admitting he broke the rules. By the way Pete, what did you do with the ashes? I hope you put them in the proper receptacle. You can't just spread them anywhere you want. I'm watching you Pete....... always watching.

I thought this line meant you saw other lights being changed. So does this mean if you see someone jump off a bridge you're going to do the same?

On a serious note, I saw a nice firepit at Gander Mtn. today. It has wheels on it and is enclosed. $124 isn't bad so I'm buying one for our trip next week.

Target had some on sale. we got our Gators Tent there for $80, and the Gators Bean Bag toss for $40

We just got back Sat and there are signs saying no fires, but we saw a few parties in the 2000 that had built a big wood fire in the provided camping grill.

Enclosed fires? We have a freestanding copper bowl firepit. I don't think we have a cover, but we can probobly get one. Is this OK?:confused3
