Just wondering if anyone out there has refused an upgrade? If so, did it surprise the CM who offered it? Did it feel rude to refuse it?

Good question disneydragon ::yes::

I am also wondering about this. I would LOVE,LOVE,LOVE to be able to upgrade to concierge when we check in WL.
But, that said, we also want bunk beds really bad.So.....the question I am asking myself is, would I still want a concierge room if I could not have the bunk room?

Maybe your original post will get some feedback, so we both get some answers :sunny:

I am always afraid I will get upgraded and I would turn them down. When I plan my resort I book exactly what I want whether that is location or view. We stay at the Poly and I always request and get the Raratonga building. It is permanately in my file! LOL! I choose that building because of its location to the GCH. I am always afraid I will be uprgraded to lagoon view or concierge but haven't yet. I make sure and tell them in my fax my reasons for wanting this particular building and hope they take the hint and leave me alone! LOL!

I opted not to get a "paid for" upgrade during my last trip. Part of my vacation was concierge, part was not, all was at AKL. There was no way I wanted to change rooms part way through our short trip so I begged and pleaded to be kept in the same regular savannah room through my entire stay. I loved my room and I have no idea what I missed not being on the fifth/sixth floor! Having the concierge lounge was enough for me!

That being said, our next vacation this Easter is entirely concierge, and I am really looking forward to the extra square footage, and the fridge in the room! When it was just DS and I, the extra space really wasn't needed.

You didn't miss out. The rooms are insignificantly larger and the view is sooooooooooooooooooooo much better from the lower floors. I think next time we go back to AKL we will skip concierge so we can have the better view...Its that much better!!

Some of the rooms in the BC are very far from the elevator and lobby. I could understand someone preferring a stanadard view room close to the elevator as opposed to a long walk for a pool view room. I don't think someone would "refuse" the upgrade as much as asking for a room closer to the elevator and getting a standard view.

Most upgrades are minor view upgrades, you might not even know you've been upgraded until you get to your room.

Skiwee, I looked at Raratonga but requested Samoa because I fear "parking lot view." Can you tell me more about Raratonga? We need nonsmoking; Mom has asthma and she is traveling with us. Will be there in June and kind of didn't know WHAT to ask for... Any advice appreciated. I looked at Tikiman's site but it's a bit overwhelming...

Are they good to give you the building you request?

TooBoyz4us,

Last May we had a woodview room reserved at WL and requested bunkbeds with a view of the otter pond. When we arrived we got exactly what we had requested. I then asked about upgrading to concierge. The upgrade was available for an each $45 per night but they didn't have a bunkbed room available on the concierge floor. So what we did was get concierge access but stay in our original room on the 2nd floor. The only difference between it and a concierge room was it didn't have a frig. We found it really easy to go up to the 7th floor for breakfast or when we wanted a snack and the staff was really nice to us. We also got turndown service. Have a fun trip.

We have asked for and stayed in Raratonga four times now. It is for us the best building as it is close to the GCH and convenient to the volcano pool. We always request third floor monorail view and love it. There is so much foilage there at all times that it is pretty difficult to have a bad view. Yes, I have seen a car or two in the parking lot but that is looking between the palms and other greens! It is just so nice to be able to sit on the balcony and watch the monorail approach. You are still far enough enough away that you have complete privacy from any monorail riders. Raratonga is non smoking and there are no balconies on the second floor. Third floor balconies, first floor patios. You can also request a view of the quiet pool instead of the monorail but we like the monorail better. We are going back in April-May and unfortunately for us Raratonga will be in rehab still so we are trying to figure out the next best building. Samoa does not appeal to me in the least because the side facing the volcano pool is so out of the open and not private or lush at all. I imagine it is also very loud with all the pool guests! It looks so sparse there and I do not like it. If I could get a GV on the other side of Samoa then I would be happy.
