HI,
I have stayed several times at AS sports and CB and bought mugs at both resorts. I am going to PC in a few weeks and was wondering if I could use the mugs there? I have about 5 of them and this time around I am really on a tight budget and really could use a break. How strict are they at using a mug from a different resort?
THanks!

You are to have a mug from the resort that you are staying at. They really do save you money so consider buying one at your new resort.

In the past you were able to use mugs from previous visits, but it seems from other posts that they are not allowing it anymore, but others have said they still are using their old mugs. All I can say is give it a try if they say no then buy new ones. In the past we have used our old mugs, we are going next month and will see what happens. Have a good time when you go.

MelMeg, they are staying at a different resort than the mugs they have. That is different than using mugs from a previous visit.

Oh yippee...a mug question.

MBELSANTI....
I let a friend of mine and my cousin use our supposedly "old" mugs from POR / CBR / POFQ / CSR / ASMu & ASSp for their trips in June 04 and January 04. They too stayed at PC and they had NO problem ...not even questioned.

If fact, my frined and his family who went in June actually ASKED a CM in the PC food court if the mugs they had were okay to use....and guess what.......the CM said " absolutely".

Those who believe you should buy the mug are going to go out of their way to convince you to buy one. Some posters even may question your "honesty, morals, and is this the way you want your children raised.?"

We are 8 days away...and have used old mugs EVERY year since 01.

My advice..use the mugs you already have UNTIL a disney employee tells you NOT TOO. !!!!!!

I completely agree with kinggoofy. If we are staying at the same resort we always take back our mugs. We go every year, and see no problem in doing this. We have never been told not to. Usually the mugs are the same or have changed a little, but we have never had a problem. It is definitely worth trying!

Thanks for your replies! The way I see it is that I bought the mugs from a Disney resort to start with so what is the difference? Sometimes people stay at a few different Disney resorts during their visit like I did one year..I mean can they really expect you to buy mugs for every resort? And anyway, it shows I am a repeat guest at Disney hotels. I am going to bring them because my friend and I are single moms taking our sons and we are struggling right now and this would help us out.

Just be prepared to buy ones/pay for drinks individually if you get turned away with your old mugs.

We have a different 'problem' - we're staying 5 nights at PC and 6 nights at AKL. I'm planning on buying mugs for the trip, at least two at PC, but it seems so crazy and $$ to buy 4 at PC and then get 4 more at AKL! We could stay at PC for the whole trip, but then Disney loses out on our $$$ for the more expensive deluxe resort room rate... So, do you think they'd let us use two PC mugs at AKL if I have proof that it's one long trip, with a resort change in the middle? I'm willing to buy two AKL ones as well!

Since we are on mugs, does SSR offer this? Gonna be there in a month, just curious.

Thanks

I think this mug question comes up so often b/c both sides have very valid points.

When we purchased our WL mugs in 2002, we were told free refills for the rest of your life's visits to WDW @ that particular resort. Pretty sweet deal. But now that the official/unofficial rule has changed/never was established, it just leaves answers in the gray area. Disney hasn't been consistent enough with mug rules for everyone to agree. We haven't stayed at WL since and haven't tried using old mugs, so I don't really have an opinion. Okay, okay, so I'm a little wishy washy here. Oh well...:D

I hope someone could find out about this. I have two mugs from ASMo and am only staying 3 nights this next trip and It sure would be nice to use them at PopC. 3 nights would not pay me to buy them again.

I have a great tip for using your Refillable Mug, but first we need to review some things:

The Deal – for $11.99 you get to buy and keep a souvenir mug and refill your mug with a drink for as many times as you like during the course of your stay at that resort – for free (let’s forget the used mug debate for now).

That said and given the rules here is what we do and here is the tip. We buy 1 Mug (for 5 of us) each trip and bring a 1 gallon Jug along from home (awkward when you fly). In the morning, when we go to the food court to get food for the kids – we also bring the empty gallon Jug. Since there is no rule that says you can’t share your drink with others or pour the contents of your Mug into another container (i.e. a Mug, a Jug or anything else) I pour about 12 Mugs of coffee, one-at-a-time, into the Jug (I know this sounds ridiculous as I could just put the Jug under the spout and fill it all at once but I don’t want to break the rules). After the Jug is full, we grab a handful of sugar packets then fill the Mug with half-and-half (free of course) and head back to the room. While the kids are getting dressed, we drink coffee (ever have six cups of coffee in ½ hour – what a buzz).

We usually take an afternoon break and go back to the hotel for a dip in the pool. Same routine, 12 Mugs of Coke or something else - from the Mug, into the Jug - then out to the pool. Since there is no rule against sharing your drink, we often pour drinks for anyone we meet at the pool then just refill the Jug (I think 3 times in two hours is our record).

Same thing when we get back from the parks at night except one Jug (maybe two) is usually enough.

When we get home that poor Mug is history as it is only good for the length of our stay. We have found that backing the car over a used Disney Refillable Mug pretty much does the trick. Hope this tip helps – LOL.

You've gotta be kidding me???!!!!! That's pushing it just a bit too far don't cha think?? :drinking: Unbelievable.

Don't lecture me on the rules-- I've never actually bought the mugs-- I've always bought stuff at the grocery store?

But, with all the lecturers out there about how you aren't supposed to reuse the mugs, morals, you may be turned away, etc.

here is my question: Has anyone EVER been turned away from using a mug?? If so, was it

1) from another resort, same trip?
2) from another trip, but the same resort?
3) from another resort, different trip?
4) non-Disney container?

It seems there are always first-hand stories of people where the CM said they could use allegedly-illegal containers, but I've never heard a story about someone who tried to use one and was told no. I'd like to hear one.

Besides using mugs from a previous trips to a resort, or from a different WDW resort, how about the people who are using a non-Disney mug in the food court. After paying my $12 or so for a resort mug I just love looking over at the person next to me who is filling up their 48 ounce mug from Quicky Stop or Six Flags. Have to fight the temptation to grab the mug out of their hands, hold it up and yell for a CM to confiscate this illegal mug.

When we visited the WL in May Hubby was sitting with his "old big mug" and I had my smaller one. Over comes the manager and she says, i see you are long time visitors of the Lodge. "Busted , "I said, laughing....... She laughed and said, "OH NO.......We do not sell those mugs any longer but those of you who have them are welcome to use them as long as the Lodge is here or your mug holds up." She then said that the new ones with the disclaimer on them are the ones with limited use. My daughter has now asked that our mugs go in the will to her.......LOL.......

Stitchgirl I have personally witnessed CMs at the Poly tell guests that their mugs were no good. They had to buy new ones. One guest left in a huff. The others bought mugs. So there are resorts that actually follow those rules that are posted on those huge signs in the food area.

Well, since we have 3 DxL mugs, 3 POR mugs, 3 Polynesian mugs and 2 AllStarMusic mugs, my dh has told me 'NO MORE!!!" We'll be at the CR for two nights and then over to BWV for 6 nights. We just have way too many mugs to get any more of them. And I can't be bothered carting them back and forth in my luggage either. So...
1. I have never seen anyone told they could not use a previous mug.
2. I haven't even seen anyone turned away while using a McD's cup!!
3. Do what you want. Just don't take my pool chair!
