Refillable Mugs

I've never bought a refillable mug but I've never seen a CM turn anyone away who was using an expired mug or one from a different resort, etc.

We were in Disney last week and we did buy the new mugs but we saw alot of YOAMD mugs, old POP mugs. I even saw a guy filling up a 20 ounce soda bottle and another person filling up one of those nicer water bottles. :confused3

AND..if you bring back your mugs from a previous stay and re-use them...you are breaking Disney rules. So you should not do this!

So, in summary, if you bring back your mug - you will be soundly thrashed for it here on the DISboards...but you may or may not get in trouble at Disney. If you go back within the same "mug style" year...as YOAMD lasted 2 years...then it is unlikely they will "catch" you.

Sorry Pete but I don't entirely agree. I have mugs from POP, All Star Sports, Music, Movies and Port Orleans. When the mugs were originally purchased they were sold with idea that they are good at that specific resort, forever.

I have spoken with several managers at these hotels recently and have been told that the old mugs will always be honored because that is how they were sold. That same manager also said that a cast member should never question a guest about refilling "any" mug. I'm not saying it's okay to refill a Universal Mug, just telling you what I was told.

I will continue to use my old mugs. Whether that makes me a villian to some of you, so be it. I bought the mugs under a specific rule and I'm following it.

This is a long debate. People say that they know you can't but they still do anyway because you can get away with it. Bottom line is You are not allowed.

Bottom line is You are not allowed.

Actually, I think those words are the crux of the matter, and are in fact just the opposite - you ARE allowed, in the fact that absolutely NO ONE enforces any of the rules regarding the mugs or filling stations.

Now, if we wanted to get technical, you do not have the rights to refills if you are using a mug from a previous trip (other than the old ones that had different terms) because you bought the mug with certain rights attached to it ("licensed"), and that license expired when you left the resort (or any resort at the end of your current trip, depending on the interpretation of the current wording).

But not being allowed implies some sort of enforcement, of which there is none. Disney could certainly choose to enforce it at any time, and you'd have a problem.

Truth is Disney CAN'T enforce it under the current system. There is no requirement of proof. They don't tell you to keep your receipt with you at all times, so there is no way for them to determine whether you purchased it today, yesterday, or last year (other than design changes). They'd have to do something differently.

And as I said before, Disney likely feels that a potential confrontation between a cast member (who likely isn't trained in such things) and a guest isn't worth the nickel the soda actually costs Disney.

Yes, Disney cannot monitor the system, but it is clearly stated on the mug that it is good for "Only the length of your stay."

I'm out of this thread now, I don't want to see it get ugly like it sometimes does.

I would prefer Disney enforce this a little more. I too saw nearly every make and model mug being refilled when I was there in April. All the while Disney personel just allowed them to clearly violate the policy.

Nearly every time we go to Disney my family buys the new mugs. They are a great deal even if you have to buy them each time! I'm afraid Disney may stop the refillable mug program.

Doubtful... Do you know how cheap fountain drinks are? For a regular bar or restaurant its insanely cheap... at a fast food place, the cup costs more. That's why many places offer free refills, the profit margin is insanely high. At a place like Disney that signed a coke exclusivity agreement, the cost is even cheaper...

This is WHY Disney doesn't care. Why tick off guests for something that costs you pennies or nickels? Those that buy the mugs completely make up for the people who cheat the system. It doesn't make it right, but honestly, who cares? I buy the mugs sometimes, and never steal from the fountain, but honestly, I couldn't care less about it.

Agreed. I still wish everyone would buy them every time though, so nobody cheats the system.

OT: Nice Signature!

But your argument is exactly why you think Disney WOULD enforce it. They make no money on the soda, only on the MUG. Now, I understand why they wouldn't bother with some complicated system to ensure you don't use your POP century mug at the Poly, but preventing people from using OLD style mugs and mugs from other companies WOULD be easily enforcable - plus there would be no easy way for the customer to argue it.

I just suspect that the staff at most restaurants have better things to do than watch out for whose using what mugs, even though they probably are supposed to.

I suppose we should bring out old POFQ mug from 2006 to POP this December and see if anyone stops us...just for fun! :rotfl:

Came across a better refillable mug deal than Disney at Williamsburg.

$10.00 for the year and the mug is bigger than Disney's.

I'm checked...just haven't gotten around to checking out yet.:rolleyes1

I personally enjoy the fact we are discussing/ debating a refillable mug policy!

It's much easier than trying to find a solution to the national debt, the healthcare crisis or world peace.

These boards are great!

Disney is obviously more expensive than Williamsburg though.

We reuse the mugs every year, we buy at least one or two mugs a trip though. For the YOAMD the mugs stayed the same for two years, so we just reused them. Also when they had resort mugs we'd just reuse our resort mug at that resort, we wouldn't go to say...Pop and use a Coronado Springs mug. We'd use the Coronado Spring mug at Coronado Spring only.
