AND..if you bring back your mugs from a previous stay and re-use them...you are breaking Disney rules. So you should not do this!
So, in summary, if you bring back your mug - you will be soundly thrashed for it here on the DISboards...but you may or may not get in trouble at Disney. If you go back within the same "mug style" year...as YOAMD lasted 2 years...then it is unlikely they will "catch" you.

1) Usable at the resort where you bought them.
2) Usable only for the length of your stay.
3) Not usable for repeat stays.
NOTE: Refillable mugs sold through 2002 are usable forever. They were sold to be used on every trip.
Bottom line is You are not allowed.
Yes, Disney cannot monitor the system, but it is clearly stated on the mug that it is good for "Only the length of your stay."Actually, I think those words are the crux of the matter, and are in fact just the opposite - you ARE allowed, in the fact that absolutely NO ONE enforces any of the rules regarding the mugs or filling stations.
Now, if we wanted to get technical, you do not have the rights to refills if you are using a mug from a previous trip (other than the old ones that had different terms) because you bought the mug with certain rights attached to it ("licensed"), and that license expired when you left the resort (or any resort at the end of your current trip, depending on the interpretation of the current wording).
But not being allowed implies some sort of enforcement, of which there is none. Disney could certainly choose to enforce it at any time, and you'd have a problem.
Truth is Disney CAN'T enforce it under the current system. There is no requirement of proof. They don't tell you to keep your receipt with you at all times, so there is no way for them to determine whether you purchased it today, yesterday, or last year (other than design changes). They'd have to do something differently.
And as I said before, Disney likely feels that a potential confrontation between a cast member (who likely isn't trained in such things) and a guest isn't worth the nickel the soda actually costs Disney.
I would prefer Disney enforce this a little more. I too saw nearly every make and model mug being refilled when I was there in April. All the while Disney personel just allowed them to clearly violate the policy.
Nearly every time we go to Disney my family buys the new mugs. They are a great deal even if you have to buy them each time! I'm afraid Disney may stop the refillable mug program.![]()
Agreed. I still wish everyone would buy them every time though, so nobody cheats the system.Doubtful... Do you know how cheap fountain drinks are? For a regular bar or restaurant its insanely cheap... at a fast food place, the cup costs more. That's why many places offer free refills, the profit margin is insanely high. At a place like Disney that signed a coke exclusivity agreement, the cost is even cheaper...
This is WHY Disney doesn't care. Why tick off guests for something that costs you pennies or nickels? Those that buy the mugs completely make up for the people who cheat the system. It doesn't make it right, but honestly, who cares? I buy the mugs sometimes, and never steal from the fountain, but honestly, I couldn't care less about it.

Disney is obviously more expensive than Williamsburg though.Came across a better refillable mug deal than Disney at Williamsburg.
$10.00 for the year and the mug is bigger than Disney's.
I personally enjoy the fact we are discussing/ debating a refillable mug policy!
It's much easier than trying to find a solution to the national debt, the healthcare crisis or world peace.
These boards are great!
