Refillable mugs that can't be refilled?

Is there somewhere that tells you all the places you can get your refillable mug refilled? We are staying at PC so I know I can get the refilled there but can I get it refilled anywhere else? Any park locations?

Wendy in VA

No park locations. They are only supposed to be used at the resort you're staying at at the time of getting the mug, but all the resorts seem to have the same one, so it's pretty common that people use their mugs at other resorts during their stay (if they resort hop). (Some people even bring their mugs back on later stays :confused3)

They have been doing this at the BW Bakery for years. I have also heard they do this at the BW pool as well. We are staying at the BWV in a few weeks, and while I do not use the refillable mug that often, it is inconveneient to do so at the BW. There should be a self service refillable station somewhere on property. We used to be able to fill them at the Spoodles pizza window, but I do not know if this is still possible since I do not know if the pizza window is still there!

Hi Corrine! Lucky you going in a few weeks. :thumbsup2

Now please don't hole me to this; when I was there in June I spoke to a CM at Spoodles who said "the pizza window is still staying as is....." so please check this out for us when you go!!

No, you just show them your mug(s), and instead of refilling them, they'll give you the paper cups. I walk into the bakery, hold up two mugs, ask for two coffees, and I get two cups of hot coffee in regular insulated cups instead of the mugs.

Like I said, we're obviously in the minority, but I stand by my opinion. I wouldn't mind having the refills noted on some sort of card though - that seems like a good idea.

I got tired of taking our cups down there and then returning them to the room before heading out so I just showed up with my receipt for the cups and they would fill up the paper cups for us.

They looked at us strangely the first time we did this but after that had not problems at all.

Before the self serve station was installed at Good's at OKW, I remember them filling a cafe & pouring that into your mug, so in essence, they never touched your mug.

I have been down there many more times than you can count probably and know about refillable mugs. But, look at the people you say is filling up on sodas from some other type of holder other than a cup. They are all staying in that resort. As for the BW/BWV--you get a lot more than people just staying there. People come to the Boardwalk for the atmosphere, restaurants, ESPN club, Atlantic Dance Hall, Jelly Rolls, etc. and they are not staying at that resort. So, making a self-serve filling station would be out of the question there. And I think I am very observant of what is going on around where I choose to stay, thank you. :rolleyes1

To some extent I agree with you, but I would say the resorts on the monorail get just as many wanderers at their resorts. The pools at those resorts have to be heavily monitored during the summer months. At CR, GF and Poly they all have refillable mug stations.

I agree with a PP that while the BWV is beautiful it is not for us because of this one major inconvenience. No food court of anykind (the bakery doesn't come close) and the fact that I have to carry a mug to not get it filled.

To the PP that said you can see a mug was just "'refilled" vs. a mug sticker or something, I would say the way it works now you just have to buy one mug and send each family member in with the same refillable mug to get your four different cups of soda. This is stupid and the main reason we won't go back to BWV. I was very dissappointed that they can't "Find" a place to put a small market or drink station. What about at the pool? Are you telling me they have all these people wandering to the pool area to fill up their mugs. I think this is just a financial decision to support all those resraurants around the boardwalk.

I bought everyone in my family a refillable mug today at the bakery at BWV. The woman behind the counter gave us our mugs and proceeded to give us our drinks in paper cups. She said it was for sanitary reasons, and I figured it was because the mugs weren't washed.

So, I went back to the room later and washed the mugs. I proceeded to bring them back down a few hours later for a refill. Once again, the woman gave me paper cups. When I asked her why she didn't take the mugs, she said it was for sanitary reasons.

Here was the conversation:

Me: "You can't fill the mugs?"
Cast Member: "No, we are not allowed for sanitary reasons."

Me: "Why do we have the mugs?"
Cast Member: "It is a souvenir."

Me: "So I have to bring them in whenever I want a drink?"
Cast Member: "Yes."

Me: "That seems to be a bit awkward, especially if I am buying for multiple people. Maybe it would be better if they gave guests a card that we could keep in our wallets. It would be easier to carry that around than a mug."

Does it work this way at every resort? When I last bought a mug at POR a few years back, I was able to just walk up to a soda fountain and pour my own drink. I figured that it would be the same at BWV. However, although I was told it could be refilled at several locations on the BWV property, I was also told that the process is apparently always the same (show mug, get paper cup of soda).

In the grand scheme of things it isn't that big of a deal. It just seems a bit awkward.

Any insight?

The reason is because of heath. They don't want gross used mugs in the food prep area in the bakery. In the self serve resorts YOU assume the responsibilty ( and liability ) for any "Cooties" you may pick up from the dispensers.

Easy fix is to just dump the paper cups into the mugs then carry them back to the room or where ever your going. I for one think this is a fantastic way of doing it. I've seen some nasty dispensers at POR and CBR on several trips

Put the soda fountains in a area that is only accessible to those with room keys.

Seems like an easy fix to me...
