I have yet another question about the refillable mugs. We bought them at POR back when it was Dixie Landings, and when we bought it were told that it would be good forever - in other words that we could bring it back at any return visits and use them. This was how the mugs were billed for a least a few years. So we've done that for quite a few return visits, and never had a problem. But on some ot the other threads I've noticed people commenting and criticizing on how "cheap" people can be by using old mugs. I always thought it was neat to see which people had which years mugs, they change every so often. But I don't particularly relish the idea that other vacationers are looking at my family and thinking we're breaking the rules and "stealing" from Disney. What are the rules? Has Disney renigged on their "good forever" billing? By the way, we actually have sets from 4 different resorts, but we happen to like POR best and go back there a lot. Any thoughts appreciated.

Although nothing would prob be said to you no matter what you used, the policy has changed. The cup you buy now is just good for the length of your trip in that resort.
That said, we always ask the food court manager on our first day and we haen't been turned down yet. He tells us his answer is now different (although it prob still won't be enforced), depending on your mug. If your mug is dated, then supposedly, you should not have been told to bring it back (althought that's also been proven wrong). If you have one of the older ones, at least what I've been told, you can still bring those back.

I personally could care less what anyone brings back or doesn't.

I remember reading somewhere that some Disney resorts are starting to sell a larger 32 oz mug for something like $19.99. Does anyone know if that is true? If so, what resorts are offering them? I am staying at POP in 2 weeks and at WL in December.

I would definitely pay the extra for a bigger mug. By the time I walk from the food court to my room (even if I am in the building right next to the food court) my drink is half gone! I would love to have a 32oz size instead of 12 or 16 or whatever the current (smaller) size is.::MickeyMo

I couldnt agree more with this statement, and wish everyone had it!

What do I care if you've got a mug from 1981????

We always get the mugs, as souveniers, from each trip. Now have them from DxL, POR, Polynesian, AllStarMu and one from BWV!!! That makes a total of 12. My dh has told me 'no more!!' My recent mug from BWV says it is good for the resort it was purchased at, for that stay only. But, since I only used it one time, I'm planning on bringing it back with me in Nov. Only my dd will use it for an occasional soda. I'm not so crazy about the people that use the 'big gulp' cups or cups from McD's. You should at least buy your mug from Disney!! No, I don't stand around checking out who is using what mug. I have better stuff to do. The way I figure it...we spent $12.00 for one soda in August '04. If we add 3 more in Nov., I figure Disney won't mind too much. That comes out to $3 a soda!!!

When I bought mugs in the past, I was told they were good forever. I will bring those mugs back (if I have room in the suitcase) for future use. Now that the policy has changed, the ones that I buy are only for that stay so I will buy a new one each time. That being said, you will see me filling a disposable cup for the coffee that I am taking on the bus to the park. No way do I want to lug that mug around all day.

The answer is very simple as explained to me by the head of the food court. If you have an old mug that does not say length of stay only on it you are welcome to use it forever. The new ones with the disclaimer are meant to be for the length of stay only......

First of all, I too don't "care" if you re-use your mugs. Nor do I now care if you use McD's cups, igloo drink coolers, or anything else for that matter... given the fact that the resort staff generally won't even lift a finger on the matter.

However, technically the policy hasn't changed. The official policy has always been "one mug, one resort (excepting "sisters"), one visit". Signage stating this has been around for several years at different locations off-and-on... even though CMs would contradict it only a few feet away. The only thing that's changed now is what some of the food court emplyees are saying when asked about the subject. But as Doris pointed out, effectively the CMs are only paying "lip service" to the policy now and since enforcement is almost non-existent it's a moot point.

We have taken our Dixie mugs with us to POR and used them with no problems you should be just fine. We bought ours in 98 and have used them numerous times since then. We have a mug from every resort we have stayed at and bring them with us as we tend to go to each resort pool in the evenings DVC perk and take the mugs with us for drinks.

If someone gives you a bad look, clock 'em over the head with your mug.
Before or after filling? :teeth:

Next, I would be very interested in a 32oz. mug. We have WL mugs-- 20oz & 16oz. I hear they aren't selling the 20 oz anymore. 16oz is just too small--not worth the effort. I was thinking about bringing my 20oz and offering to pay again just to save some running.

We just returned from POR 8-22. We have several old mugs from many different resorts. When we go to WDW we bring our POR mugs because thats where we always stay now.

the new POR mugs are ONLY purple and have a saying in there "good for your length of stay" ( yada..yada )

I happened to have an old POR mug that was green and had a cracked handle. The CM noticed it and said, "give me your mug I will give you a new one." I did and he did.

There is NO WAY..I repeat NO WAY the CM's will EVER stop you from using ANY mug from ANY WDW resort.

Do I have a problem with others using 7-11 mugs or gas station mugs ...YES !!!!

In fact, one day walking to the food court I saw a guy bringing his empty coffee pot that was in his room, he filled it with food court coffee and went on his way.

Others may question your ethics, honesty, and "is this the way you want to bring up your children, letting them see you cheat."

Who cares.....UNTIL someone at the food court STOPS ME....its old mugs for us until we are told NO.

We have been to WDW every year since 97...for 97 - 00 we did buy new mugs EVERY trip until we "wisened" up.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD "DO NOT USE THOSE OLD MUGS."

I go to Disney to have fun not see who is using what mug from which resort. I think of it like this. Are they paying for your vacation? NO! So do what you like until a CM tells you different. If other people's lives are so boring that they have to nitpick about you. Well then they need to get a new life.

Now my only Disney pet peeve is when people are walking and suddenly stop in the middle of the walkway to chat. When we do that we move to the side as not to block the people behind us.

Have fun, you're on vacation remember

only resort I heard that has large mugs is CSR. 64oz for $20

Just a quick clarification. First, thanks for your input. Our mugs don't say good for length of stay, but one does have the 25 yr logo on it. Anyway, I meant using old resort mugs, NOT outside cups. That I definetely don't agree with, I can't see waltzing in with your 7-11 mug and getting a refill. That takes some gall. But whatever, there's a lot worse that I've read on other threads that people do. But this was interesting. I've never seen the bigger mugs, but maybe they're trying them at one or a few resorts to see the interest.:D

In January my cousin and her family ( of 3 ) and in June a friend of mine and his family ( of 4 ) went to WDW and they both stayed at POP.

They used old mugs of ours without any problem. The mugs were, two from CSR and an old DXL red mug and an old ASMu mug.

THEY HAD NO PROBLEM.

Hard to say. Some in this and other threads have mentioned using mugs from one resort at another without any problem. Some have said that you should purchase a new mug for each resort.

I don't care if you use an OLD mug, I just get irritated when you see people using McDonalds a chic'fil'a mug. Yes, I saw this at POFQ this weekend.
