Refillable Mugs (long - sorry!!)

We forgot our Coronado mug one trip and used our Dixie mug and not one cast membver said a thing they even filled it for us a couple of times when they came to the table.

I like the idea of clocking someone over the head with my mug if I get a look! Do you think the DIS boards can start a "get me out of jail fund"???? hahaha

I would be using my POR mug for the week we are there only. I just don't want to have to buy a refillable mug for the 1st 4 days we are there, then turn around because we are switching resorts have to buy another mug for the last 4 days.

I'll buy a new mug the next time we go back, but really don't think it would be fair having to buy multiple mugs for the same week.

I don't think the CMs care at all what you use. You can use 7-11 cup, use an empty coffee pot, use an empty jug, igloo drink coolers, your own pitcher, use old refill-mugs, mugs from other resorts... They won't stop you. I've seen others do that, but never seen any CMs stop them.

I don't care who brings what. I don't care if they bring an empty barrel, as long as they leave some drinks for us!

Who cares.....UNTIL someone at the food court STOPS ME....its old mugs for us until we are told NO.

We have been to WDW every year since 97...for 97 - 00 we did buy new mugs EVERY trip until we "wisened" up.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD "DO NOT USE THOSE OLD MUGS."

Actually Kinggoofy there are CMs that do follow the posted rules. I have seen it at the Poly . Folks trying to use a mug from a different resort were told they couldn't. Another time someone was using a cup from McDs and told they couldn's. So there are times that CMs do indeed follow the rules and it is MOST embarrassing to the people breaking them. Pretty funny too.

I think people should quit drinking so much pop and Nescafe coffee. It is not good for you. I especially cringe when small children are given cokes. Horrible for their teeth and leads to obesity. But if you have a refillable mug and it makes you happy to bathe in that stuff, God bless.

Well, both coffee and diet soda have Zero carbs while Guinness Beer has 20 carbs. I guess to each his/her own!

I don't see a difference between using an old mug to get free soda or a 7-11 mug to get free soda. Some of the people using 7-11 mugs may have left their old mugs home, not knowing the rules weren't being enforced. Others may have purchased new mugs but prefer to use other mugs or even paper cups.

The present policy is still free soda for all. Either you follow the rules or you don't.

that CM who was "doing their job" probably spoke OUR language.

In all our years of going to WDW...NEVER..NEVER..NEVER have I seen a CM stop someone from using ANY type of mug.

It may have been your lucky day. Play the lottery, you may have a better chance of winning it than having a CM stop you from using a mug from either a different resort or an old one.

We purchased our mugs in 2000 and have taken them to AS Sports (where we purchased them) every trip since. We were told that they were good forever. We have seen people with mugs from years before we purchased ours.

That said, when we were staying at CSR, we bought new mugs for there. On our last day as we were leaving the Pepper Market, I saw a family with mugs from (I think) the Yacht Club (a different resort). And they had their mugs in the middle of their table and the server was bringing their drinks in regular cups, not their mugs. Their coffee was in coffee cups etc. They were not allowed to use their mugs at CSR.

No doubt a "rookie" CM or a "Barney Fife" CM. I'm sure their co-workers will clue them in in due time.

I used to "care" about such things, but thanks to the good "stop being 'Holier-than-thou'" crowd here I've changed my outlook on lots of things at the parks!

I don't care if you use an OLD mug, I just get irritated when you see people using McDonalds a chic'fil'a mug.

You're suffering from the same "hang-up" that I used to have with the re-use of mugs. Why bother caring about it? What's the difference between the resort's indifference about old mugs and their indifference about McD's cups and such... both are violations of the long standing, but openly ignored, policy?

I agree 100%. I think Disney should either just give away the soda and coffee. Promote it as a perk for staying onsite. How much extra could the cups cost? That's basically what's going on.

OR

get rid of the the self service drinks. I suspect the extra revenue from guests who now have to follow rules will more than pay for the salaries of a few CM. I don't think BC/YC or BW offer self service refills for the mugs. BW bakery had a sign that said they refill current mugs and had a slight discount if you wanted to fill other mugs.

I go to the Poly for 25-30 days year. I know this CM has been there at least for the last 2 years. She is no rookie. She is just following the rules. The other CM I have no idea how long she has been there but is obviously being taught to follow the rules. Personally I don't care if someone does this. I think it is stealing though and think it funny when they are busted. I just wanted to correct Kinggoofy when he said NO CM will ever stop you because that is wrong. They can and do stop you and it can be quite embarrassing. I have seen the looks on their faces and everyone elses when this happens.

Now this is what bothers me. Do you really thing reusing a mug is the same as lying and getting a child in for free? I suppose you do both?

What gets me is that if the mugs are supposed to be used during the length of a guests stay.....I guess that it should be phrased "the length of guests stay AT THAT SPECIFIC RESORT."

Customers do resort hop....in my case I am upgrading from POR to Poly, and will need to buy another mug???? I think that's ridiculous. I guess I will just ask when I'm at the POLY and let the CM know that I was just at POR 4 days prior. I will let them tell me I need to buy yet ANOTHER mug if that is what I need to do. I will follow the rules set before me....but that doesn't mean I need to like it!

I didn't think this post would take such a vehement turn. But the quotes from above are why I started it. My point was that when the mugs started, I don't even remember how many years ago, they WERE intended for use forever, not just the length of stay. This was the policy, so the first quote above is not true. Signage may have been up for years stating the current policy, but for at least a few years when the mugs first started that wasn't the policy and those signs weren't there. I guess there is just no way around this - we can continue to use our mugs (as can enyone else who bought them back then, and I do see them a few times every time we go). However, people who aren't aware that they used to be good forever will continue to think we are "stealing" pop by using the old mugs. It's not so much a case of you either follow the rules or you don't, which, by the way, is a very passive aggressive statement. But I must say that reading this has been a lot of fun, I always check first to see what else has been added. This time we're staying at the PC for the first time, so this doesn't even apply b/c we'll be buying new PC mugs (which, as the rules state, will only be good for this length of stay) Looking forward to further posts!!!

I don't EVER remember seeing ANYTHING in writing saying the mugs were good for life. I know some CM may have told some guests that was the case but that didn't make it official Disney policy. Some posters seem to remember signs going back 20 years that they remember saying the refills were good for life. Even if that is what people were told all policies are subject to change. I'm curious if anyone has any material that shows if and when the mugs were for life.

At one time pool hopping were officially permitted. Rules and policies change.

You can do a search, some posters were trying to interpret the signs as meaning the mug was valid not just for your present stay but all future stays. People are refilling bread bags, big gulp mugs mugs that were bought when the signage was up. I'd say a very number of people that are getting free soda bought the mugs if and when the official policy was free refills for life.
