Refillable mug tops/caps?

What are the tops like on the refillable mugs? Do they close, or do they just have an open hole of some type? If they close, is the seal any good?

I know this sounds like a silly question, so here's why I'm asking. I'm trying to figure out if we can give the girls carabiner clips to hook on their fanny packs in order to carry their mugs with, or if this will just make a big sticky mess!

I know the mugs are not refillable in the parks. My plan is to fill up at POP before we head out for the day, and fill them with water and Kool Aid Singles after their morning refill is gone.

The top is one piece that slides open by moving the top clockwise/counter clockwise.

Good for a car, but will certainly leak if tipped. This picture is of the older mug, but the top is still the same on the 2009 version.

The cups are like the insulated plastic coffee mugs. We tried the same thing, use carabiner clips to click the cups onto out stroller but it didn't work out well and alot of times we ended up with a sticky messy! Especially on the bus when it was cramped. Next time we will have water bottles shipped to hour hotel and take them to the park with us instead. The refillable mugs are still a good deal even if you only refill when at the resort!
