Refillable mug--really want to know

It doesn't matter to me what other people do - only what I do (and what the people I'm responsible for do). I was just offering an example of why people might care.

:thumbsup2 Same here. Heck, I'm on vacation, what others do isn't going to impact me at all. I'll admit I'm not perfect, but what I do wrong won't seriously impact others vacation, unless you let it.

That said, it is nice to be able to have a thread with differing opinions without the flames.

:lmao:

you know it's all because I changed my name to Minnie the Pooh, right? I create quite the stink...;)

come back home:hug:...

we have lifetime refillable mugs @ the darkside:laughing:and cookies & plenty of koolaid too:woohoo:

im sure it's already been mentioned in the thread that i skimmed:rolleyes1 that the WDW refillable cups hold 8 oz or so, a royal waste of time walking to food court to get them filled imo. Grab a couple of cases of bottledwhatever on ur way into the park or have them delivered...no fuss, no muss.

But businesses that experience shoplifting to such a degree that it starts impacting their projected gross, or goes beyond their projected shrink, enforce policy's to help prevent it before or in conjunction with price increases.
Disney isn't raising prices on soda because people are stealing it, if that were the case they would be enforcing the rule about not reusing the mugs, which they apparently are not.

None of us know how much money Disney looses this way. So you cannot be certain that some of the price increases do not go to cover the cost of people stealing soda. It could be that it is just plain easier to charge 10 cents more for popcorn that it would be to pay a CM to watch the soda stations.

And it really should make no difference how much it impacts Disney. It is stealing, no matter how much the soda costs them. They are charging us for it, so that is what we should pay.

And again I say...it's not so much the cost of soda that Disney is losing..it's the cost of brand new mugs. If a family of four keeps returning with their mugs, from a trip 6 years ago, and assuming they return each year..then they are saving themselves about $56 a year, mulitplied by those addtl 5 trips after the initial cost...close to $300. I truly think that's the money that Disney is going to miss...not the dollar or so of soda that is used on each trip.

Do I care? No, not really. As I said before..if Disney truly cared about this practice of using mugs on subsequent trips, they would stop it. What really gets my goat is when someone fills up a non-Disney container. I've seen Thermo's filled up, huge 7-11 mugs, US or SW mugs refilled. If you're going to refill a mug, you can at least use one that Disney got some money for to begin with.

Amen sista.

Actually they hold 14 oz with no ice..(regardless of which mug style you have) I find I can get a full can of pop (12 oz?) into one without much trouble provided I go 'light' with the ice..

But for those who like almost a half cup of ice with their drink.. yeah.. they're getting closer to 8oz of fluid.

If you're not allowed to bring in outside food, then why do they allow you to bring in soft sided coolers? No where in the park rules does it say "no outside food, or beverage". I don't bring lunch in, but I do bring snacks for dd, and a couple of waters, and security never says anything. My local water park has a big sign that says, "no outside food or beverages". They made me throw away my dd's goldfish crackers, and tried to make my friend throw away her bottle of nursery water she brought to make her 9 month old a bottle!! (we got a manager on that one). I would just like to see where you are technically not allowed to bring in outside food, because I never heard of that rule, and I worked at disney.

I wasn't trying to start any arguments... Gee!
I myself bring in snacks and water too. But there is something that says no coolers and there is a sign...or was one that said no outside food. There was a whole topic about it a year or two ago and someone even posted a picture of the sign.
The majority of people on that thread all said they brought in food, but several who tried to bring in coolers were denied. I think it got heated and closed...go figure...I make one mention...and flames a being thrown.

I could care less waht people bring in to eat at the parks, but I do know you are not supposed to really bring in a meal. Things may have changed since then though.

And again, we always bring in bottles of water or bottled beverages and snacks for my DD every trip and have never had anyone tell us no.

Disney did in fact relax these requirements over the years and updated their websites etc to reflect the changes..

I know that when I went a few years ago =- those restrictions WERE in place but they are clearly not now.

ice is nice:laughing:

i have considered the strategy of continuing to purchase a new mug each trip and packing an empty 1/2 gallon thermal container to avoid running back & forth, but DH wouldn't let me:rolleyes:boy scout

Not sure if this will clear anything up or not but the lifetime refillable mug was discussed on there and this is what was said:

Q:Hello, Hello - Are the yellow Dixie Landings refillable mugs still usable at Port Orleans Riverside - I also have Port Orleans and Year of Million dreams mugs but I believe the yellow ones bought in 1996 were sold as lifetime mugs?

A:Lorraine, Thanks so much for writing us with such an interesting question!

As you probably know, this is a very hot topic on some of the other Walt Disney Boards. The current policy with refillable mugs is that you should only use them at the resort where they were purchased, and only for the duration of your stay at that resort. However, in your case with the refillable Dixie Landings mugs, if they were sold to you as "refillable for lifetime" mugs, then you shouldn't have any problem using them during any visit to Port Orleans Riverside (even though Dixie Landings has been re-named Port Orleans Riverside).

I must admit that I learned something from your question, as I was unaware that the resorts used to sell these "lifetime" refillable mugs. Fortunately I did some research as was able to confirm that up until approx. 2001 (might be a year or two off) there were refillable mugs sold at several resorts that were advertised as being usable for your lifetime. I think the concept was to try to encourage guests to return to the same resort, and this was one perk of doing so. I believe some of the mugs stated "lifetime" on the mug or had a sticker on the packaging, and other times the Cast Members simply communicated this "lifetime" concept when they mugs were sold. Regardless, my understanding is that these mugs are still 100% acceptable at these resorts, and truly are for lifetime use.

Hope that helps. Please write again if you have further questions!

OOOOps. There's typing sloppy and fast and not paying attention to the list of red squibble mistake fixers, thinking all is well. We all get one right?:confused3:rotfl2::laughing:

I'm knew hear its my first day. LOL

BUT, you can bring back a water park mug. You just have to pay the for the new day sticker. The water park mugs are good for the day you buy them. But they let you buy another day sticker (and they put it over the old sticker) so you can reuse the mug. You just have to pay for the sticker.

They usually sell the new day sticker at the entrance of the water park. And I think they are about $5 or 6.

When I get my new sticker, I always get a comment from the CM about how old my water park mug is. I think they have had three or four different mugs since I got mine many years ago.

Hey Thanks for the info! DH and I are going to WDW childless this year so we are not actually hitting the waterparks. That is WAYYYY more the kids' thing than it is mine (which is why we are skipping DQ too :cool2:). My blizzard beach mug is very faded, but I keep it for sentimental reasons. I'm going to buy a new souvenir travel mug (not necessarily a refillable one) this time around and make sure the danged thing is cupholder friendly! The one I have from 2005 is HUGE!!! :headache:

:tinker: After much arguing with my grandmother over the looks of our forever mugs I am pleased to announce we have decided to bring them back as opposed to the ones we bought last year! :thumbsup2: You have converted the thief into a law abiding citizen! Now is anyone gonna gripe if I switch out the lid of a forever one with one from last year, because one of those are broke?? :rotfl:

:tinker: Not sure if this helps or not but this is what the Mom Panel on the WDW website stated about bringing in your own food and drinks. Not sure if it is legal or not since it's just the Mom Panel but they really seem to know their rules and regs on there.

Q: My family will be visiting WDW in August. Will I be able to bring my son's wagon & a cooler w/ snacks & water? Also, will there be room on all the transportation so we can hop from park to park?

- Asked by Cathleen from IL on 4/10/2010

A: Hi Cathleen!

Welcome to the Moms Panel!

Wagons are not allowed at the Walt Disney World parks, but you are welcomed to bring a stroller or rent one at the parks if you'd like.

While you are allowed to bring snacks and drinks into the parks, you'll have to adhere to a few rules here. Namely, no glass containers, and no rolling coolers. You may use a soft sided cooler no bigger than the size of a typical backpack. Keep in mind those hot August days when packing your snacks! There are also fresh fruit stands at each of the parks, and plenty of quick counter service places through out Walt Disney World. I also like to have a frozen bottle of water to start the day off and as I carry it around the park it stay cool for a bit longer.

To park hop, you can use Disney transportation. Depending on your departing and arriving destination, you can use bus, boat, or monorail. While there is usually room for guests waiting, I have found a couple of times where the line of guests waiting was enough to fill a bus once it arrived, and I needed to wait for the next one. Transportation runs about every 20 minutes.

Hope this helps, but feel free to come back here to the Moms Panel if you need more help!

Have a magical vacation!

with all due respect to the mom's panel:
I know I am beating a dead horse here, cause no one ever responds tothis situation (eventhough many people do split stays):
the SPIRIT of the law (as opposed to the LETTER of the law) is that the mug is purchased for your current WDW stay . (I am not speaking of the "forever mugs", here)

If you have decided, rahter than spend less at a value the whole time, but stay a few nights at a value, then give Disney more money by staying a few nights at a moderate or deluxe resort (or both), OF COURSE Disney lets you use the same mugs for you ENTIRE stay on our current vacation!
no one has yet to explain to me how that is "stealing." you can have your luggage transferred by Disney, you can use the park tickets purchased with the "package" at the first resort at the 2nd and 3rd resorts (up to 14 days; the expiration). you can s t r e t c h out the dining plan (it doesn't expire until midnight the day of checkoutwe had the DDP at out first resort(POFQ).WL was our 2nd resort, so we used 1 TS credit each to eat at Whispering Canyon our first night there... but... you can't use the mugs you purchased at FQ?. if you stay at 3 dif resorts ON THE SAME TRIP, you "should" purchase 3 mugs per person? on the SAME trip? nonsense

I have read on here from other posters who say the mugs which were sold with no rules written on them are the ones which were good on all future visits, so if guests had them and wanted to bring them back then technically they wouldn't be doing anything wrong.

Never thought about that! I have every WDW mug I ever bought. Think I'll go and start looking in the cupboards to see which ones I want to take on my next trip! Our whole group of 32 might not need to buy mugs that trip!:rotfl:

Just kidding of course! We buy new ones every trip. That's how we ended up with about 50 mugs between 3 people!
