I may be opening a can of worms here, but I have to ask! Is my Dixie Landings refillable mug good now that it's Port Orleans - Riverside?

The cups are supposed to only be good for length of stay but that being said I was told by a CM at POR that the cups are good for as long as you return to that resort and that it is perfectly okay for someone to bring an old Dixie Landings mug/

Stated policy is Length of Stay though and it is posted at POR.

HMMM! Is that what it actually says. Define length of stay. Does that mean current stay or any stay as long as it is at the resort of purchase. Who cares! The value of the mugs are insignificant to the value of the stay at a WDW resort. At $10.00 per mug, my family (each) drinks that in a day at the priced charged per cup. In addition, I don't think Disney makes the $$$ from Coke products or else there would be closer scrutiney.

Just my two cents and nothing more.

Tim.

This is a hot topic for some people, so don't cringe. Everyone has their own opinion, so to each his own. I have asked CM's regarding this and have had no problems reusing mugs. I only use the mug from that resort though (All Stars at All Stars, PO @ PO, etc.) and not mugs from other resorts or parks.

I was actually curious about the mug program. I tried to do a search, but the search feature was not working. I know that a short time ago Disney was talking about redoing their mug program with new mugs with bar codes on them. When I went ot Deb Wills site, it still shows the original program listed. Does anyone know if they have started this new mug program yet or if they have not, when they will?

Guys, just back from POR/DL. Both new and old mugs were being used with no problems. The mug test that is being conducted is at TL and BB only. Currently the old mug program is in force. Take your mugs and enjoy. I'm sure when it changes we'll find out about it - we always do - LOL!! ;)

I am very new at all of this, so here goes! You purchase a refillabel mug at the resort that you are staying. You may have refills at this resort only? So, can you refill your mug and carry it anywhere? With me so far..... Surely they don't allow you to take it into restaurants? Please help me understand this program?

You can only fill the mug at the resort where it was purchased. But, you can carry it with you anyplace you want to! You can bring it into the restaurants already filled - but they won't refill it for you.

I do not know if this still applies, but Coke used to give (I am talking free here) all of the product sold at WDW to them. WDW only had to pay for the packaging (i.e. cups, straws, ice, and labor). In return, Coke got to be the official drink of Disney and Coke could promote that. I remember when you could get a Pepsi at WDW. It was few and far between but still there. I would guess that with the expansion of WDW the free deal may not apply anymore, but I am sure WDW does not pay the same amount per volume as most customers. On a $10 refillable mug, they probably make more than it costs them on almost everyone. Not to mention they cut the two biggest expenses in disposable cups and labor. There is a huge markup in soft drinks.

I never even thought to bother with these mugs until now...

Where would I purchase/refill a mug at the BWV? Is it only for coke or does it include other beverages? Coffee? etc?

Thanks!

It does include other beverages, but since I only use it for the coke, I'm not sure what others are available. I'm sure coffee is included as well.

Does anyone know if a Port Orleans Riverside mug would be good at Port Orleans French Quarter?

Yes you can use your mug at "sister" resorts - ie. POFQ and POR; ASMo/ASSp/ASMu can use their mugs at any of those 3 food courts. To answer the question about the change in refillable "disbribution", I emailed Disney about this when the rumours first started flying. I had a call from the executive offices at Disney and she said that this change was totally rumour and that there is nothing in the works to roll this out to the resorts. I told her wouldn't Walt be proud of how imaginative and creative we can be in our thoughts !!!

The refillable mugs worked well for us, too. If I remember correctly, we would get tea, coffee, sodas, lemonade in them at the resorts.

I believe Port Orleans & Dixie Landings were sister resorts, so you could use your mug at either one.

Here's a hint... the bottom comes off of the mug. Fill it w/water & then freeze it - it will keep your drink even colder -- we still use our mugs at home, and this works perfectly.

(also great for cup of soup, etc.)

We just returned from our 4th stay at PO-Riverside. On all of my previous visits, I have taken our old mugs and reused them...but I was a "good" girl on this trip and I purchased new mugs while there. They're cute, and my old one's were looking pretty faded...but I will say that I saw JUST AS MANY old mugs (red/white) being used as the new ones.

You'll read MANY debates on these boards and it gets pretty ridiculous - people will accuse you of stealing, etc. You'll also read MANY different "official" statements from Disney in regards to this policy.

All I know is that Disney is very lenient when it comes to this. I would NEVER consider buying a mug from PO-Riverside and then trying to refill it at the Yacht Club, but as long as I return year after year to PO-Riverside, I will plan to reuse my mugs. On our 3rd visit there, I had an "original" Dixie Landings mug, and I then purchased one of the red/white ones. One of the CM's said to me, "Oh, you've got an original mug...it's sooooo good to see them still being used."

If Disney is really worried about this policy, then they will install the bar code system throughout the resorts. Until then, reuse your mugs and spend your money elsewhere on Disney property. I always feel that the $40 I saved on mugs is going to Disney one way or another.

I'm not trying to start a debate...so please don't flame me!!!
