They can't reactivate it until it is deactivated. They will do it right at the cash register at the food court.

It would be far cheaper on that last morning to just pay for drinks, wouldn't it? It's one thing if you had a few days, but just one morning?

The OP is buying a mug for "length of stay" and staying for 15 days. When they purchase the mug it will expire on day 14. If they bring their mugs and their reservation number to the food court, they will activate them for free because that 15th day is still part of their "stay".

On that 15th day breakfast, do you plan to use your mugs for coffee or tea, or is it for drinks from the soda dispensers where the RFID chip is required?

That is a great point! I had forgotten that not everything uses the chip. We'd probably be getting hot chocolate, coffee anyways. Thanks! We may not fool with reactivating then unless we just want soda.

We're curious - as we are *drowning* in a sea of Resort mugs at home.... LOL (I know, it's a wonderful problem to have - we have been so very fortunate to be able to return to WDW so many times!)

How many people take back their Resort mugs to be re-activated? I feel wasteful, bringing home mugs from every. single. trip. when they could be reactivated and re-used. (We never use ours in the microwave, so no worries there)

I know there will be the same fee regardless of if we re-activate, or use the new mugs. That's completely OK with me; I'm paying to have unlimited refills during my stay.

The design hasn't changed since our last trip (early January this year) so, am I missing some compelling reason not to just throw them in the suitcase?

Does anyone else brings their mugs from home to reuse?

How many people take back their Resort mugs to be re-activated? I feel wasteful, bringing home mugs from every. single. trip. when they could be reactivated and re-used. (We never use ours in the microwave, so no worries there)

I left mine in my Owner's Locker specifically so that I can reuse it next time I'm there.

While it would be lovely to get a discount to reactivate them, the environmental happiness from reusing it is well worth it to me.

The Boardwalk Bakery was open last week when I was there and I haven't heard of any plans for closing it. Seashore Sweets is closed however. Hope you have a great trip!

I would think Disney would save a lot of money by offering a discount for people to reactivate older mugs. That is a great idea.... I know they are included in the package but people also buy them when not doing the package and that's where the savings could add up

Not sure I follow that logic. Disney gets $16.99 to reactivate an older mug. How would they save $$ by activating that same mug for less?

why are they getting $16.99 to reactivate the older mug? I was thinking it would be a win-win for Disney (saving the cost of the new mug) and us (getting a big discount for being green and reusing our former mugs)

Each mug costs Disney $1.03. I don't think they want to offer a big discount in order to save $1.03. They'd actually be missing out on a bigger profit.
