I actually thought they were good for life as well...but there is some fine print on the side of the cup that says "valid during your stay" or something to that effect.
It still doesn't stop me from bringing it and using it anyway though. Nobody says anything.

at universal, they love their guests.
when dueling dragons opened up, i bought the dd mug, blue/ice one.
it has a handle, lid with a plastic thick straw in it.
i was told then and the policy is still in effect, once you buy the universal MUGS, they are good for life or until they leak so bad you can't use them anymore. on that note, my straw was so chewed up that one of the counter service places gave me a replacement straw for free last year.
i have taken mine back for years.
it's eons old now....
and to be on the cheap side of getting the refills, i show my
AAA card or my AP card and get a 10% discount off the refill price.
i kill myself......
when i go in the fall, well last fall, the refill price was $1.25 then the discount was applied to it.
they will not allow disney mugs for the refills........
My cup had said the refills were only good for the day of purchase . I used both cups all three days I was there and NOBODY even looked. I am going to bring them back when we return in the summer . Not that I mind spending the $7.00 a cup BUT I was just there and well Didn't they get enough of my money this year??

more than likely you can use the sippy cup for your stay.
I'm wondering if maybe you had the sipper cups that you get with the meal deals. Those are technically for the day of the meal deal since the refills are free but even those can be used for 69 cent refills on another day.
I am a little confused about the meal deal souvenir cups.
I went online to Universal directly and I see that you can purchase the cup for $8.99. I was reading here on the boards that you can get refills for 69cents. If I purchase the cup for my 5 day stay, can I get refills every day or do I have to purchase a cup for every day that I am there?
Does anyone know?

your sippy cup is good for your entire stay.
if you buy the universal mug, any of them, they are good for a lifetime.
the refill price changes on some dates in the fall.
Most will let you take them on the ride or have a place for you to store them. On the Lockers Required rides (ROTM, MIB, Hulk, Dragons) they go in a locker or with a non-rider.
if you do not get off the ride where you got on, you can't leave it with the TM.
many people clip the mugs to a belt or use the bottle strap over the shoulder when they walk around the park or do some of the shows or minor rides.
i don't take my mug into the park every day i am there.
if i plan on doing the coasters and rides where i need a locker, i leave it in my hotel room.
then i stick with water on those park days.
You could also place them in a locker if you don't have
