I saw the $50 per referral as well, but when I was there, the guide told me that the person had to actually purchase. I thought it said they just had to complete the tour. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Amazingly, I ended up with FOUR in a weeks time. Wasn't something I planned, but I had a ton of friends that went down there during the free dining in the last few weeks and 4 of them took the tour. One has bought and two won't, but the fourth might.

Thanks, browniemtb and MemoryMakers! It wouldn't surprise me that the incentive only comes through if the person buys. Imagine the money someone could make if the referral only had to take the tour.

Yeah, I looked on the DVC Member site and couldn't find anything. I remember something arrived in the mail recently about referrals, but I threw it out before my friend started talking to me about DVC.

I just wanted to let you all know that I recieved my first 50.00 via
Fed Ex a few minutes ago. My niece did not buy yet she just took the telephone tour. Hope this helps.

Absolutely! It answers the question as to whether you get it just for the tour or if the person buys.

Virginia does not allow for referrals either, BUT my guide thinks this Gift Card thing might be different. He is checking on it for me and I will know soon and will report back.

When you do a referral and the person buys, you get $200 and that is NOT allowed for some of the states...like VA. Stupid IMO, but oh well.

MemoryMakers, you said you found that out from your guide? I wish there was a place on the member website where this is all spelled out. When I clicked on the Referral page there, all the information it gave was how to refer a friend, not all these other details. Although it's sounding like that would take up too much room.

For this "promotion" anyone can get the $50 gift card for referring someone who completes a tour (either in person or via phone). The state laws don't apply towards this. I live in VA and received some disneyshopping.com gift cards last year for referring some folks who did the telephone tour. They key is that they have to tell DVC that you are the one that referred them.

The referral bonus that some members receive if the person they referred actually buys is a different story. I know in VA I am not eligible for that.

sk8belle: I did call my guide about it. The website doesn't provide us with a lot of information I have found. It is nice to go look at our points at least.

WA State is also exempt from any bonuses. Also, I know of at least one person that did the tour and used my name as a referral during the Friends/Family promo and I never received anything other than a letter from my guide thanking me.

The $50.00 gift card for referring someone to TAKE a tour (phone or in person) is new. It wasn't going on when the freinds and family promotion was in effect. You are supposed to get the $50.00 gift card when they take the tour, even if they do not purchase. If they purchase, then you are eligible for the usual perks (provided your state allows).

OK, talked to my guide again. He found out that of all the states that can't earn referral benefits, that three of them.....WOOHOO, Virginia is one of them. Vermont as well and I can't remember the third one. But, we CAN earn the gift cards. I am getting four of them!

What are they exactly, does anyone know?

The one we got this evening is a holographic credit card sized card with Mickey on the front, worth $50 at different Disney places, cruise line, parks etc for tickets,dining, recreation and merchandise.

The promo ends October 20th. We received it by email in mid august and in snail mail last week.
