A question for those of you who do a lot of rewards programs...

What is your thought on referral earnings? Specifically, what do you think about the fact that when you receive some kind of benefit based on people you refer, you can see what they have earned. Is it an invasion of privacy for the person who referred you to see what you have earned? Or is it just part of the rewards program and a necessary evil?

I like knowing how much of my earnings come from my referrals but I'm not so sure I'd like to know which of my referrals was earning money and which ones were not. It might get sticky if you actually know the people.

Tricia,

Being a VERY private person, I'd have to say that I wouldn't want the person who referred me to see what I have earned. I think them just knowing what they have earned off me is enough. Just my 2-Cents :thumbsup2

I agree, even though none of the people I have sent links to have joined (yet)!

I like knowing how many have signed up and how close some of them are. Maybe the compromise is having it be more generic.

You have 10 referrals.

Referral 1 has earned 5 dollars.
Referral 2 has not yet earned 5 dollars.
Etc.

That way you know how many people signed up under you and how many of them have reached the target, but not specifically who they are or how much they make after they hit the target. Not sure if that is possible or problematic from the IT stand point, but seems to be a good balance between the want to know and want to have privacy.

that would be a great way to do it !! I also wish there was an offers pending thing where we could see what we had done and that we were awaiting payment. I keep a journal of what I have done but doing several sites I do lose track sometimes on SR.

Funny you should ask us this......I had sent a referral to one of my best friends, a fellow DISer & my Disney travel buddy. Well, I had coffee with her the other day and said..."I see you're doing the rewards site with the referral link I sent you, and you're up to X amount of dollars already..good for you!" Well, she looked at me like I had three heads, and said..how do you know?
I explained that I could see her total....she wasn't mad, just surprised and went on to ask me about a thousand questions about doing offers etc.
But, I can see it would offend some!

I think a generic number: You have earned $xx from referals. Just one number for all...no break individual breakdown. I don't want the person who refered me to know if I am clicking or not...

For me, I have 40-something referrals, and I swear I only know who about 5 of them are! So it really doesn't matter to me, cause I can't tell who is who. I had my link on a message board I used to post on (other than here) and most of those ladies I didn't know very well on a first name basis. So on SR, when it says, Kristy S., I don't even know who that is! :rotfl:

I can only see what the person has currently. It does not show what they have earned totally. Once they cash out, you see what they have remaining. I don't think it is needed.

I would not mind if a person who referred me knew how much I earned.

Perhaps a good solution would be to only list the earnings until the person reaches the referral level. Once they reach the $5, perhaps just have it read referral earned and no longer keep the tally.

Personally, after the person earned enough for my referral I could care less about how much money they earned afterwards.;)

My whole 1 referral (my sis) could care less. I would also not mind if people knew what I was earning. I think I have shared how much my earnings are on the Dis anyway. But, I guess some people may not like it. Maybe just, like a PP said, have the referrals numbered and not listed as names.

And to the PP who has a TON of referrals, congratulations! I would love to have that many referrals. When I try to explain my reward programs to some of my friends, they think I am kind of odd. Guess they do not want free money! To each their own!

I was telling my mom and sister about these programs and how I was making some money. They at first looked at me like I was crazy. Then on Easter while they were here I signed in and showed them my balances :rotfl:

Hey Tricia - the changes to the referral info look good!

I like the new display. I don't know my one referal, but she is a DISer. I think it makes sense just to say, X numbers of referals and if they made the threshold or not. I have referred several people to another site and only ONE has done anything except sign up.

And Trisha, you are wise to think about the privacy issues before someone gets P.O.ed

PS, I would love to see a pending area, right now when I do an offer I try to leave it on the list, then when I get credit it drops off, but I don't always remember which ones I have done brfore they credit.

I like seeing my referrals, because it reminds me who I need to IM if their is a paid click or a good offer posted. But my referrals are friends of mine.

Can someone please explain to me how to send a link to a referral on SR? I go into the referral link on the right side and copy the link, but it links to my home page where my info can be accessed. I don't know what I am doing wrong and I have a friend who wants a link and I want to get the referral! Thanks for any info!!!:confused3

Nevermind...I figured it out. Thanks anyway!
