Referral bonus??

anyone know if there is any kind of a referral bonus with the DVC?

Depending on where you live, you might be eligible for a referral bonus. We are eligible here in Mass, and in about half of US states. Your Guide can tell you if you live in an eligible state. Some states have a maximum, like Ohio, for example, limits you to a maximum of $1000 in referral bonuses; I think Georgia has a similar limit. According to my old documentation, eligible states are AL, CA, DE, GA, HI, ID, IL, IA, KS, LA, MD, MA, MS, MO, NV, NH, NJ, NY, ND, OH, PR, RI, SD and WI.

Assuming you live in an eligible state, the starting referral bonus is $200 for the first, $350 for the second referral, $500 for the third, $750 the fourth and $1000 for the fifth. This is for referrals in the same calendar year. It is also fully taxable and could be reported to the IRS (so you had better report it on your taxes for good measure). In some cases I have forwarded on the referral bonus to the buyer I referred - at least the after-tax portion.

The other thing about referrals is that the folks you refer are assigned to your Guide, so she/ he will love to hear from you.

If you live in a state that doen not allow referrals, see if your referral can use the name of a friend in an eligible state, so it's not wasted.

hmm I am in texas, but my referral would be in RI, I wonder if he would get it. I'll have to wait til monday to talk to my guide

If the person from RI referred you, then he should get one. If you referred tehm and Texas doesn't offer this, then you would not get one.

It goes by your state of residency (the person referring), so I believe Texas is not eligible (the reason is state laws regarding time-share sales). Check with your Guide tho to make sure.

In case you are not eligible, you may want to have a pal in an eligible state refer your referral in your place, get the bonus and send you the after tax portion (I have done this with some of the folks I have referred).

The bonus is payable to the DVCer referring in the form of a Disney Rewards Card, payment on your maintenence fees (usually our preference), credit towards an add-on or a donation (in your name) to the American Red Cross or Give Kids the World (our other preference).
