Reese's Buttercup Outrage

There has been a lot of talk lately about Disney (and SeaWorld and Universal) raising prices and offering less.

Well I can tell you another example of a business doing the same thing. While handing out Halloween candy yesterday I was horrified to discover that Reese's has reduced the size of their buttercup from .6 oz to .55oz. I loved Reese's buttercups but it had been a while since I had some and I when I was looking at them I thought that the size of the cup seemed smaller.

Any other Reese's lovers out there who noticed this, or did this happen a while ago!

I've noticed it too but it's also been happening with a lot of other products.
I'm sure costs are a factor - cost of cocoa beans due to a shortage, product transportation costs, etc. I won't give up candy purchases but I will look for items at Costco or on sale. This morning I went grocery shopping and almost had heart failure when I saw the cost of olive oil, meat & several other items. Guess I'll have to start making more bulk purchases because the cost of smaller packages is really outrageous.

Odd. The ones we handed out (which were individually wrapped) were .75 oz.

I would answer as a fellow Reese's cup lover, but I ate them all before I could differentiate the size. :rolleyes1 Sorry.

I love Reeses, but unfortunately they don't sell them here in Italy, so I really couldn't say if they are smaller or not :sad1:

I noticed it, too while I was sitting out on the porch contemplating my bowl of treats. It's all just sad sad sad.:sad2:

I purposely didn't give out any Reese's last night because I was hoarding them for me. :teeth: Look on the bright side...fewer calories per peanut butter cup! :rotfl2:

**After posting above, I went to the kitchen to get a Reese's, but there were none left in the bag! Darn husband or son must've eaten the last one! :(

Hmmm, I thought it was just that my mouth had gotten bigger...
:confused3

It doesn't make that much of a difference if you're shoving the whole thing in your mouth. I'll have to pay closer attention next time.

It just so happens that I saved the Reeses for last to pass out last night and since we didn't have that many kids, I still have some. :goodvibes I'll go check the size later. I didn't notice, but the one I ate was squished slightly.

One thing I did notice was this summer Dryer's ice cream ( I think it is Eddy's back east- at least the carton lookis the same) got smaller. Way smaller. I forget the exact weight though. It is our favorite brand and their light (slow churned) is the best tasting we have found, but we do not buy it unless it is on sale. The smaller size made it ridiculously expensive. :sad2:

lol...not if you then go and eat 3 or 4 more than you usually do and tell yourself its ok now that they are smaller :goodvibes

A quart of ice cream isn't quite a quart of ice cream anymore. :sad2: It isn't just Edy's either. My Mom and I only found one brand that was still a true quart - and darn it if I can't remember which one it was.

My boy's bucket is sitting right here....the Reese's cup is .6 oz. He also has a "full size" Reese's and that is 1.5 oz.

I haven't noticed the size change, wonder if it will take a while to hit the shelves. This is my favorite candy on the planet. (We are talking about Reeses peanut butter cups right?)

^ Blue Bell, maybe ?

As for Reese's... Are they a lot sweeter than they used to be or is it just me ?

Maybe because sugar is cheaper than cocoa beans, or something...

I was contemplating my bowl of treats last night as well. We got these huge combo bags with Reese's, Almond Joy, Kit Kat and plain ol' Hershey bars...

Couldn't decide which I liked best, but with all the leftover candy my research will continue...

So I saw this thread and ran to my bag of Reese's cups to call the number on the package. Ya know what they said about the change in the size? It was due to customer demand :sad2:

Yes, Don - Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Good thing I ate 2 last night (with a glass of fat-free milk :teeth: ), because my husband finished the rest!

Wow

First, thanks for kicking my thread up a notch by doing some research and getting to the bottom of this.

Second, that has to be the most ridiculous thing I have heard!!! LOL! If they were really listening to customer demand they would probably have to make the cups about the size of dinner plates...at least that is what I would have suggested.

I have the same bag...mine are .75 ounces.

.6 or .75 - either way, I've eaten too many. My theory is if I eat them all now, they won't tempt me in a few days :rotfl:
