Red Sox Nation Honestly how are you feeling about our chances in the play offs? I'm a little nervous (typical for us sox fans) that it's taking all kinds of help from Texas for them to clinch the wildcard:eek:. Is anyone feeling that it just might be the Yankees year:rolleyes: Just saying...

The Yanks are playing better......... but never count the Sox out..........

I don't care who makes the World Series, as long as the playoffs are interesting! The end of the regular season has been a bore. Only one race mattered (AL Central, which is the least interesting division); two if you include the minor blips put up by the Giants and Braves. We have had 5-6 straight World Series in a ROW that have been either 4-0 or 4-1... Is it too much to ask for a 7 games, edge of your seat series? Oh and please refrain from a Detroit/Minnesota vs. Colorado World Series so people actually care. Thank you.

Don't count the Red Sox out yet. They have made some amazing comebacks in the past.

They do tend to rally when they need to. I hate to say it, but I really think the Yankees are just about unstoppable this year. They are playing so well and seem so cohesive as a team. I think they'll win it all. (Hope I'm wrong of course).

I think it's our nature to be a little pessimistic, after all those years of defeat. We want them to win, but we don't expect them to win.

Yankees fans, on the other hand, expect their team to win, and are shocked when they don't.

Watching them play the last 5 games, I can definitely see what you mean. They just haven't looked good at all. Whereas the Yanks have been playing some great ball. Although last night's almost come-back at least showed them having some life.

BUT, the playoffs is like a whole new beginning. Normally how a team ends the season doesn't really effect how they do in the playoffs.
So I guess the series against LA will tell us what we need to know. If the Sox come out swinging and looking good, and can drop LA pretty quickly (again), then I think they will be in great shape. But if they struggle against LA (even though they might win), then I would have to agree that this could very well be the Yanks year to finally buy, I mean win, the WS.

A little OT but you guys lost me when you paid over 100 mil for dice clay? :confused3 How was that worth it? Not sure about an organization that makes those kind of moves. And then gets rid of fertility drug ManRam. Not that I'm a fan of his, but he is a good hitter, I guess that move was ok in hindsight considering his 50 game suspension. Spending yourself into oblivion is not the only way to go. But good luck.

I'm excited they clinched the spot. But I hate the way they clinched it, and I am really not happy with the fact that they keep saying it doesn't matter they lost 5 in a row now. It DOES matter. They need to turn it around before entering the playoffs, and there isn't much time to do that.

I'd feel a lot better about their chances if they would stop playing Varitek. He was a great catcher, and a great Red Sox player, but he can't hit and he can't field anymore...he belongs on the bench now, and it's frustrating that they keep putting him in. Guaranteed out everytime.

Also, I'm really nervous they will get past the Angels and lose to the Yankees. Truthfully, I'd prefer they lose to the Angels. Losing to the Yanks is just salt in the wound.

I agree with everything you said. Varitek used to be my favorite player but his time has come and gone. One blocked and lost ball last week caused a tie game, then a loss. It's time for him to turn to coaching/managing.
