Our last trip to Disneyland was Spring Break last year and the Red Rose Tavern was always super crowded and had long lines for lunch and dinner, so we skipped it. I’d like to try again for our upcoming trip in a few weeks.

Does anyone have more recent experience eating there? Has the enthusiasm for this restaurant died down at all?

We were there last year that time as well and it was much busier than it had been in the past. That being said, I think it was because they had the glowing rose cups and you still couldn't get them anywhere else at the time. Hopefully someone else can chime in on how it is now but I would guess it has died down since those aren't specialty anymore!

We ate there in early December and it wasn't any more crowded than prior years.

I also went in December and the crowds weren't that bad (not much worse than most of the other CS locations in DLR). The craze for the rose cups has died down (because you can get a similar version elsewhere in the parks), so now folks mostly go there to actually eat. There was maybe one or two guests ahead of us in line.

I went in October and only had to wait about 5 minutes in line.

As a side note, the vegetarian option DH and I got was just plain gross (the Enchanted Cauliflower Sandwich). The cauliflower was barely cooked and way too thick -- almost inedible, and my fries were cold. Not sure if that is a consistent problem, but we were so disappointed we will probably never return. Maybe the meat options are better there, but I'd steer clear of that caulflower sandwich.

It wasn't bad in January. Consider sharing the grey stuff--its delicious, but a heck of a lot richer than I expected, and couldn't finish it all...

Oh yes, I forgot about the glowing rose cups they were selling last April! Thank you all for sharing your recent experience at the Red Rose Tavern and an order for the grey stuff is definitely happening!

We also went in October (and have returned other times since then) and shared the cauliflower sandwich each time. Ours have been tasty (although we'd been warned by friends that the aioli was quite spicy, so we ask for that on the side and use it as a dip, toned down with ketchup, for the fries). Our food has been served warm, but I can understand that it would not be as good served cold. Next time, should you choose to return, don't be afraid to return your order, explain the problem, and ask for a new sandwich with hot fries.
To the OP: we usually have short waits at RRT, but we don't dine during peak hours.

I was in there last week for Gastons Famous Brew and it was fairly quiet. They have walls around it now (Cast member said it was for the flower pots they are fixing?) and with those walls and the walls for Dumbo it was harder to get to maybe keeping crowds down.

We ate there at least 5 or 6 times throughout last year and it seemed that the lines went away after the initial buzz wore off and they were no longer selling the rose cups.

And definitely try the grey stuff, it's delicious. Don't believe me, ask the dishes...

Yeah, it was super busy early last year because the Red Rose Taverne overlay was brand new. People wanting to try out the new menu items and the coveted rose cups played a big role in that. The novelty has worn off now, and the cups are in abundance and for sale right next door in the new Beauty and the Beast shop. So now it's not really any busier than other quick service restaurants.

I've eaten there once and it didn't look too bad, but the service was sooo slow. To be truthful though, it was probably a fluke on my order. I was waiting for a couple things for our order. We were feeding 6 so there were multiple items. I could see them sitting under the heat lamp. Unless someone else ordered the exact same things with the exact same special instructions, I was certain they were mine. The CM in charge of bringing the food to the windows kept passing it over. I have no idea why. It just sat there and sat there and sat there. She kept moving it farther down the line, but never brought it to the window. I tried to nicely point out to the CM at my window that I thought it was my order. She politely refused to check. She assured me that they had a system and when my food was ready they would bring it to me. After awhile, the brought it to me. The same food that had been sitting under the heat lamp the entire time! I was hungry and grumpy by then and a little less than pleasant. I do feel bad about that though. The CM probably deals with a lot of hangry people. The person behind me was just getting coffee... I really felt bad for them. At least I got food out of the wait. I would have been really grumpy waiting that long for coffee.

Despite that, I'd eat there again. The grey stuff was worth it. :-)

Essentially. It's piled on a cookie. I am a huge frosting fan but I did not think the grey stuff was very good. The cookie is odd and the combo just didn't work for me.
I'm not hard to please with desserts, but I didn't care for it either. We got one to share and actually threw some of it away. I also thought it had an odd taste.

I threw most of mine away too! But I know some people really love it.

It's way more than icing piled on a cookie.

It's a shortbread cookie, topped with a red velvet cake (like an upside down cupcake) which has a raspberry puree type filling. That is encircled with the grey stuff (it completely covers the cake) and then it is topped with those chocolate crunchy pearls. It's mainly a cake.

I wonder if they changed it? Or if the batches vary? Mine was absolutely not "mainly a cake," it was mainly icing. There was a teeny bit of cake in the middle.

I should have loved it. I love shortbread. I love red velvet cake. I love raspberry. I love grey stuff. And I love crunchy pearls. For some reason it didn't work for me.

Personally I wouldn't call it icing. Icing implies that it's like a buttercream. it's more of an Oreo cookie mousse.
