Red Lobster being cheap!!!!

Be careful - I got flame-toasted roasted on the CB for pointing out how many calories were in something recently. People don't like to be told that some food items, while they may be tasty, are not good for them.

Sometimes it isn't the information, it's the delivery.

No, they just got tired of having to bug the waiter for more biscuits. The times that we have been in the past, which is'nt very often due to the price, they have usually brought out two biscuits per person, and ASK YOU if you wanted more bread after you had fininshed those. This was not the case this time. But like I said before, when we ate there when they had the ALL YOU CAN EAT SHRIMP they overloaded us with biscuits at least twice hoping that we would get a good fill of those and not eat as many shrimp. Its all about the money.

I wonder if this is more of a regional thing and your region is just now changing. Here, I've never gotten more than one biscuit per person at RL, and most restaurants with bread don't bring more unless asked. Or they might ask if you want more - they just don't automatically bring it.

I do remember traveling and there was one chain restaurant we visited that kept bringing rolls and it surprised me.

It doesn't make sense to me to bring "seconds" unless you know they're wanted. Anything that is unwanted would just go to waste.

I think it more depends on the individual store practices. Our "Bread Rules" change so frequently its almost hard to keep upp. It's unlimited, but the way its brought changes. Sometimes it with the drinks, sometimes with the apps, sometimes salads, for all of 2 weeks we were told to greet the tables with the bread. This only lasted 2 weeks because they found if you brought people out bread before they ordered they would not get appetizers.

I "think" this weeks rules are no bread at lunch unless asked for it, bread with the appetizers at dinner automatically but you can't bring refills unless they ask for it. But I was off yesterday so who knows. :rotfl: The problem comes in when they Managing Partner looks at the numbers and sees that we are short say 26 cases (with about 40 loaves each). There is no profit in the bread so of course he will be getting a phone call from HIS boss to correct the issue if it continues.

I find it amusing that some want to keep bringing up the "its frozen food" Well DUH!! Where I live, I would hope to heck they are keeping it frozen or its going to go bad. Sure if you live a hop skip and a jump from the ocean it would suck to have it frozen when local restaraunts probably have the fresh alternative....but for where I live, its better then nothing :thumbsup2

This kills me as well. Our big thing is that our steaks are fresh never frozen. But lately the kitchen manager has been extending this to our wild caught salmon, so now there are servers saying this to the tables during the spiel. NONONO, I don't see any salmon living in the Delaware river. Just because when they walk thru the door they are not frozen does not mean they were not frozen on the boat. Again like you I sure as hope those suckers were frozen at some point. :scared:

:thumbsup2 Ding ding, we have a winner. It had nothing to do with WHAT was said.

Back OT, those biscuits are really good but I try and only eat one whenever DF and I go there. I've started the Couch to 5K thing and it would stink to undo whatever running I did that week just for some biscuits. Same thing with the bread at Outback - it's so tasty and I always eat it, but it must have a million calories.

I love any and every restaurant that gives out bread :goodvibes Sometimes they are a bit stingy with it but I think it's from them just not wanting to throw away uneaten biscuits. I try to limit myself though as it's easy to get carried away (amazing how "I'll just have one" turns into 4 :rolleyes1).

My fear is not so much the calories but the fat (I can run or work the calories off). My Dad had a heart attack last Summer and his doctor is ADAMANT against him eating anything with trans fats (even .5 of a gram) as he said trans fats is one of the biggest heart killers even in the smallest of amounts (he also has to watch saturated fat and sodium but at least he can have stuff that has that in it; he said no one should have trans fat ever). I've cut all trans fats out too after a lot of the research I've done online and I was AMAZED at the amount of trans fat in Bisquick mix. They do make biscuit mixes without trans fat (even Bisquick has one, it's called Healthy {Something}) so just wanted to remind people that are making biscuits at home (I don't know what kind of mix Red Lobster uses) in case they weren't aware :goodvibes.

:laughing::rotfl: Hope they were as good as you liked them to be!!!!'s RL biscuits!!

Lol...yes they were! But they would have been better in the fondue...I don't care how many calories or fat were in them, we don't eat out like that all the time, it's a splurge! Plus it made the baby (&mommy!) very happy! :rotfl:

I always thought it was funny that we had a Red Lobster down the street from us when we moved to the coast of FL. I mean, we are right next to the ocean, who would want to eat at RL? But the place was always packed around 4:30 pm with the local seniors. I guess something went wrong because a few months ago we saw a moving truck pull up and the place was gone by the next day.

The seafood stinks in FL. Even near the beach it is a lot of chains. We have found a few local places-not chains. Much better seafood in NY and MA/NH.

Whoever was talking about Cheesecake Factory before - you can order a "lunch" sized portion and it is smaller AND cheaper. I think they let you do it til 4pm or so. I haven't eaten there in quite a while so it may be on the menu by now, but you usually needed to specifically request the smaller portion size. HTH :)

RL is my DD10's favorite restaurant. Or I should say used to be. We had awful food a month ago. Even she said she doesn't want to go back for awhile. We got 2 refills of the biscuits and DD would have loved a 3rd but I told her no way, she needed to eat her dinner.

She still loves the biscuits which I have tried to make at home and just can't do it. I guess I don't have the touch.

This is why I make my own at home now! I almost have the same recipe as them. The taste is almost exact!

3 cups bisquick
1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
1 cup milk
2TSbp parsley

mix all together make drop biscuits on a greased baking pan. bake 375 for 12 minutes

melt 3-4 TBsp of butter and mix with garlic salt, brush on hot biscuits and serve!

This recipe saves me since we live some where there is no Red Lobster but plenty of fresh lobster from the ocean!!!

I just noticed that you're from Downeast Maine. Me too!!

we got a GIFTCARD FOR THERE AT X-MAS. I think the food was ok but pricey for what we got. We did love the cheesy buscuit:goodvibes. We have about $20 left on the giftcard and plan to do the soup and salad and buscuits-yum!!!!!!!!!!!

We received a RL gift card for Christmas and used it at Olive Garden for their all-you-can-eat soup, salad, and breadsticks.

Some people do not eat the biscuits but if they have been served they have to be thrown away.

When I worked at Phillips Crabs House (many moons ago) it was POLICY that any rolls still in the basket on the table after a family had left were to go BACK IN THE ROLL BIN in the kitchen when the table was cleared. Then those rolls were to be used for another table later that same evening.

I was always like  ....but heck, I was a teenager and did what I was told.

If I'd been older and wiser, I would've called the Board of Health a.s.a.p.

Some people do not eat the biscuits but if they have been served they have to be thrown away. It is a way of saving on waste. All anyone would have to do is ask for more.

That's exactly what happened. A lot of people did not eat them and they threw them away. You just need to tell the waiter/waitress and they will bring more out.

I totally agree with this -- I prefer this instead of wasting food.

My husband and his sister went out today to eat at Red Lobster, and they only gave them 4 cheese biscuits during thier whole meal!! Now both of them are not small by any means, and who does'nt love those cheese biscuits. The waiter said Red Lobster was starting to cut back on these. Good grief. They only brought them out two biscuits at a time.

I just reread this post. Are you saying that the waitress should have known to bring them extra because they're heavy?

 Can you imagine what would happen if servers were to start determining how many biscuits to bring out based on the customers' weight?

:confused3 I do not see this as an issue of being cheap? They will serve you more biscuits if you ask for them.

I would not bring baskets only to have people take them HOME or leave them on the table.

Seems this thread is more about gluttony.

OOOOOh, they're gonna fry ya for THAT one! :rotfl:

I agree, it's NOT RL's responsibility to make sure we have a dozen dinner rolls to brownbag home. But we've come to expect it. Having said THAT, sometimes I DO wrap a cookie in a napkin and take it...I THOUGHT I could stuff it in my face, too but found out i wuz tooo full. So I might take it home for later rather than just have it tossed in the trash.

I used to be a HUGE Red Lobster fan. It was my de facto choice for my birthday. But, once I started paying attention to what I was putting in my mouth, RL was no longer an option. I won't say the specific foods, but they have appetizers (APPETIZERS!) on their menu that contain 1200-1500 calories and 80-100 grams of fat, and that's before you even get your meal!

Sadly, though, their food has also gone downhill as they are trying to make money in a very difficult economic environment. Lucky for me, I found a fresh seafood place near my house, that we now go to for my birthday. We pick up all sorts of stuff and cook it at home.

As to the topic at hand, RL needs to protect their bottom line, and it really is up to the customer to request more biscuits. Everyone is responsible when it come to food waste (business and customer). This goes hand in hand with watching the amount of food people waste at buffet lines.
