MY apologies for asking this, but is seems like 75% of the time when I go to any of the Disney parks or Busch in Tampa I get, to various degrees, little red marks that only appear on the inside of my legs---never on the top or outside, and always below the knee.

The good news is it usually lasts for 2-3 days then goes away. It's also not itchy either.

Today we went to Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon and it's back. Has this happened to anyone else and does any one know what causes it? Just cannot understand why it only appears on the inside of legs below the knee.

Sounds like heat rash or chaffing.

Gold bond is your friend.

No... chafing would be above the knee... not below, the knee.

As previous posters have said, it's Most Likely..... really, really, really, very likely..... golfer's vasculitis.

It got it when I was in Disneyland this year in June. Back of my calves, right above the ankle, so not chafing. I just call it heat rash. I rinsed with cool water and then put on some powder. Worked like a charm. Hope you feel better. -Amanda

I had no idea about this! We've been to disney 6 times and this last June was the very first time I experienced it. Did not hurt or even itch me but my mother in law got it too. We both thought it was a reaction to lisinopril. Good info!

I get it every Disney trip. I use Benedryl cream on it and it seems to clear it up quicker.

Yeah, reading is fundamental, I thought it said between the legs like chaffing in the thighs.

Yeah, vasculitis. . . I think compression socks are supposed to help with that.

LOL.

This might actually aggravate the condition due to increased sweat/heat. But, I'm no expert.... just my nursing mind at work....

Actually, compression socks wick moisture away and increase cooling of the legs.

I agree with those who said golfer's vasculitis.

I remember reading about it on here before my 2010 trip and my uncle teasing me for being concerned about "disney rash." Since then he's gotten it frequently and he always jokes about his disney rash.

Yep, heat rash/prickly heat/golfer's vasculitis/etc. We got it at WDW in May and we've also gotten it at Six Flags in Chicago when it's really hot. Won't kill you. May itch as the rash matures and goes away. It's pores not being able to sweat as quickly as necessary to ditch excessive body heat due to high humidity. Socks or no socks don't matter. I've had gotten it with socks and sneakers on, and with sandals on. You can also get it elsewhere on your body (wrists, the back of your hand) for the same reasons.

I have a feeling it's made worse when your body is losing too much salt from sweating a lot, because at that point your body starts to hold onto fluids--hence classic Disney puffiness when it's really humid. (Gatorade/sports drinks help immensely in this regard, at least for us.)

O. M. G. You poor thing! I got the same thing at WDW in July... The Disney Rash! but, there is hope.

Drink, drink, water! Lots of it!

Elevate your feet as high as you can for an hour at a time as often as you can. I slept with my fee propped on 3 pillows and relaxed at the pool with a chair full of pillows in the afternoon :rotfl:

Ice packs will help or a cold washcloth when you are elevating your feet.

The #1 thing that is said to help pretty quickly is ibuprofen. I cannot take ibuprofen so I did everything else religiously and by day 3 it was just about gone.

This rash is said to be caused by poor circulation due to walking in the heat, especially on the hot concrete and water retention. I was wearing a knee brace on most of our trip and that is what seemed to trigger it. My rash was only on one leg.

Best of luck!

Any other questions, please ask!

The DISNEY rash:scared1:

I've gotten it before.
My sister has gotten it before.

And then this summer, I was in Washington DC and the rash appeared. It was hotter then all get out on that day. I didn't realize I had it until I got in the shower before bed.

So when it's HOT and I'm walking for miles, I need to be ready for this.

Definitely Golfer's Vasculitis. My sister got a bad case during our trip last month. She looked it up and it's caused by age (although she's only 51), heat and lots of walking. Creams like cortisone won't do anything because it's an internal condition, not on the outside of the skin. Keeping the feet and legs elevated is supposed to help, although not easy to do for long when you're at the parks all day. My sister's ankles and lower calves were pretty scary looking, but she said they didn't hurt or itch a bit. It cleared up within a few days of getting home.

Golfers vasculitis! My dad gets it too after Disney when we go and walk a lot and its hot out. Funny thing is... He told his dr about it and told him what I said it was, he went to his dr the day after a disney trip and his dr hasn't heard of it... But I guess many haven't.

The first few times my dad got it, it was just on his ankles... Now sometimes if we have walked a long distance and its hot... It will be on the inside of his thighs about where his shorts end. It does not itch.

Like others have said, to keep feet elevated after being at the park helps and also compression socks are supposed to help... But who would wanna wear those in the heat...

heat rash and prickly heat are completely different from golfers vasculitis.

Edit: golfers vasculitis is not caused by chaffing

My husband just wipes. a thin layer of clear solid deodorant on the inside of each leg, cuts way down on chafing and redness for the day. A little baby powder in the socks helps your feet too ;)
