Recycling at FW?

Are there places in or around the Fort for recycling? We are very green at home and like to continue that while we are camping so its helpful to know ahead of time where the recycling stations are.

bluesky1997, I'm curious where you are located. The reason I ask is because during our stay at FW last summer, we would fill the recycle bins closest to us just about every day but I noticed as I walked to the comfort station that other bins rarely had anything in them.

Early each morning a CM would come by in a work cart and empty the bins. On a few occasions we would have a chat and the one morning she asked if I was from Canada. When I said yes, she said she knew because of the recycling.

We have camped at numerous private campgrounds in NY, VT, NH, VA, and NC and I've noticed that most of these have no recycling. Is this the same in State Parks also?

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea, our initial and main reason for recycling was financial. In our area, you pay $2 for each garbage bag with the township logo on it and only bags with this logo can be disposed of. To encourage recycling (in an effort to extend the life of the disposal site), the township will give you 1 free bag for every blue bin of recycling you have.

I realize this is OT, but do individual sates, cities, or townships have the same or similar type of programs?

Someone once told me "You can't be a tree hugger and own a motor home!" (we're very eco-conscious).

I feel guilty driving the gas guzzling monster, but we try to camp as green as possible

Our town provides recycling bins for aluminum and plastic that are picked up weekly, but there really is no incentive to use or not use them.

They used to also collect newspaper and glass, but discontinued the newspaper cause nobody was protecting it from the weather when they put their bin out, and all the recycling company had was a mess. Not sure why they discontinue the glass.

We recycle our plastic in the bin, and save our cans separately for our BIL to actually carry those in and get cash.

My reason is also financial:
out here in ELP, Waste Management went to a single standardized trash can per household when they discontinued the manual pickup city wide a few years ago.
If you want/need another can, you pay more per month.
They provide the same can in blue as a recycle can, so to save space in my "trash" can I now recycle all glass, plastic, metal and paper in the blue can.
If you think about it, most of your items can be recycled, so I no longer run out of trash can room midweek.

Our county has curb-side recycling (plastic, glass, paper, cardboard) but no penalty if you don't use it. I like the idea your township came up with! If it costs money NOT to recycle - that may make people thing twice. Curious though - what do they do if they find items in the recycle bins that are not recyclable? You know people will try.

We don't have curb-side pickup. We have to take the recycling to a depot where an attendant looks at it before it is emptied. Anything not recyclable is removed.

Here in NY (Long Island) we have recycling mandatory. In our state parks, while camping, we are requested to recycle all cans, plastic and glass, burn anything paper in your fire pit, and have as small an amount of garbage as possible, which is great. I loved the recycling bins at FW, how convenient it was. When we left there to go to the Florida state parks however, no recycling bins were around at them...all garbage went in the dumpsters. Maybe they sorted it out afterwards? but I don't know.

@ Moseycat - Florida has no state recycling regulations - it's mandated county by county. In our county there is recycling - but it's voluntary. I know there are some counties in Fl that offer no recycling opportunities.

Because state parks are owned by....the state, and the state does not support recycling, all waste accumulated in state parks ends up in landfills.
