Reconfirming flights?

I've always been curious about this, now more than ever....
Do I have to call the airline to confirm my flights? Just curious if they note your call somehow to see if you are planning on showing up. In this age of computerized everything, is it OK if I just confirm my flight times at Delta's website before I leave or is it better to call? Thanks!

It is, in reality, your responsibility to call the airline at least 48 hours in advance of any flight.
With the way airlines are changing and cancelling these days, it would be wise to check more often.
They fly millions of pax a day, the time it takes to call folks in the case of a cancellation or delay or change is incredible. Almost an impossible task. Why not make it easy on yourselves and the airlines by taking the first step and check?

Thanks for the info... I have been checking everday, just via the internet. I trust that the info posted is up to date/real time. That's really my question, is it necessary to call or can I trust their site, does the airline NEED to hear from pax. I have also checked the status of the flight #'s for each day it has been scheduled to run, always ontime or close, and never cancelled.

No, they don't expect to hear from you. However, in the case of Delta, I would call every few days to see what is what.

Our flight down on 11/10 has a new flight number and leaves at 8 am instead of 10:10. Gets us there 2 hours earlier but we will have to get up at 4 am. Our return flight is one hour later which works out better for us. All in all it could have been worse. I was afraid we would have to connect in Atlanta or somethine. The person i talked to stressed that I should keep check back right up until the morning of the flight. She said they try to call people, but I don't think they can call everybody on all of these flights that keep changing.

I am one of the ones who does not call. I check the internet and go! The last minute cancellations are normally due to weather and equipment and for reasons I will never understand airlines like to act like they are going to be on time until the departure time has come and gone. (I always like it when at 7:30 the flight board still shows a 7 departure and I am sitting in the gate area) On Delta you can call, but I have found that the on line system is pretty accurate the same goes for Southwest. I don't know about the others I have not used them lately.

I just called USAir and my flights were changed (time change).
The outgoing flight is now leaving 15 min later and the return
flight is leaving 10 earlier. So glad I called.

Also: I asked about ID for my 3 DS's and they said that school
photo ID is NOT sufficient (it is NOT a gov't issued ID), so I
ambringing a copy of their birth certs.

I never used to reconfirm flights, but we are in a different situation now with the airline schedules in such a state of flux. I tried to confirm on-line but I was not able to find the place on the delta web site to do this without a pin #. I was never given a pin #. You used to be able to enter in your conf # but I couldn't figure out how to do that. entering in the flight # would also be a challenge since they put us on a new flight # w/o contacting us. I think the phone is the best way to go now.
