Recommendations for suites?

I'm planning our first Disneyland trip and could use some help from the experts here.

We're going in October and there will be 4 adults and 3 kids. We'd like to stay in a 2BR suite with a kitchen--and not just a microwave or hotpot. A kitchen where we can actually cook breakfast and make lunch to bring into the parks.

I looked at Paradise Pier, Grand Californian, Embassy Suites, Best Western, Radisson Suites, Hilton Suites, Ramada--all of those suites have nothing but a tiny fridge and microwave. The Grand Californian has suite villas with full kitchens, but I'm hoping for something more economical than that!

We might not need a suite, either, because 2 adults can stay in a separate room. But one of the 2 rooms must have a kitchenette.

Any ideas?

Have you looked into the Homewood Suites? Someone in the Trip Report section recently gave a thorough review. It might fit your needs. Here's a link. Check out Post #7.

Not an expert in suites in the area, but I can at least get you started. Residence Inn seems to be a favorite on the boards and both will have kitchens and has a full breakfast. Also, I know the Desert Palm and a few other places have some options with a real kitchenette area in them. They just aren't quite as close as some options so you will have a long walk with kids or need to use ART.
Hopefully more ideas will come in for you!

I personally ruled out Homewood Suites because its too far away. We like to be walking distance.
Park Vue has a 1 br (2 Queen) suite but with a living room / kitchenette. Pics:

FTR, I stayed at Desert Palms and liked it a lot. Their free breakfast was more than just toast and cereal too The walk didn't kill us off and we had two young kids. I wouldn't say it's a crazy long walk. I'd stay there again

Residence Inn on Clementine is within walking distance, albeit a long walk. I know it has full kitchens.

We really like the Residence Inn Garden Grove and are staying there in October. rates were $179.00/night weekday for 2 bedroom for up to 8 people with full kitchen. We have stayed there 4 or 5 times, and it's our first choice everytime. Embassy South is our next choice if Residence is too expensive. Free breakfast at both!

We loved the Homewood.

We were there for 4 nights in early June. I saw that someone posted about the distance to the park. It would be a long walk but they do have a shuttle. There is an extra fee but it is included in your reservation if you book directly with Disneyland (including Costco or AAA) and getawaytoday.com. We took the shuttle everyday and it never stopped at any other hotel.

We had our first DL trip in June w/ my DS3 and DS6m. We stayed at the Homewood Suites. We are planning on going again next summer. Even though there are some options that are cheaper I am willing to pay more for the wonderful experience we had.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone and anyone. Here's why:

1) Loved having a bedroom (2 queens), bathroom, living room and full kitchen. We were able to put our kids to bed and go to the other room to have some down time for me and my husband without disturbing the kids. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable.

2) While we didn't use the stove the full fridge and microwave rocked. We drove from Salt Lake City so we had a cooler and just put everything in the fridge when we arrived. We used the microwave for warming up leftovers, popcorn and baby food. We bought large water bottles and put them in the freezer each night for the next day.

3) The staff was unlike any other hotel I've ever stayed at. We were welcomed every time we walked in with a smile. Although it was very full they even remembered my children's names. Everyday during breakfast we were asked if we were going to be back mid-day. The days we were the person took our room number to ensure that our rooms were cleaned and ready for us.

4) Free breakfast (7 days) and dinner (Sun - Thurs). The eggs at breakfast weren't great but everything else was. The dinner was perfect for our family. They had a taco night, spaghetti night and bbq (hot dogs & hamburgs). Free beer, wine and soda was included for dinner. My DH loved this. We filled our water bottles with soda when heading back to the park.​

I could go on and on. It was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. We actually decided to go again this December. We could stay someplace else for less money but I think it's worth it to have a nice and clean room, awesome staff, etc. So we are staying there again.

Depending on where/when you book you should look for offers as we were able to get the 4th night free. Homewood does have an option for 2 bedrooms but I was told it fills up quickly.

We stayed at both Homewood and Residence Inn(garden grove) and had a good experience with both. Sure they are both a little out of walking distance but we just use the ART bus. Yeah ART has it's faults but it's not that bad. Were a family of 4 and normally stay a week so a suite is a must.

Residence Inn MAINGATE!!! Much closer from what I gather than Garden Grove, and is no more than a 10 minute walk to the park gates. Plenty of space to relax, decent kitchen with full facilities, great breakfast included. Loved it there and recommend it to anyone who wants a suite

Watching this thread for sure - we are debating between getting 2 separate rooms or a suite (3 adults, 2 kids, want to save $$). Very helpful suggestions

Both the Marriott Residence Inns are nice, with full kitchens. Maingate is closer but we don't walk even that far because we're spoiled now, so to us Garden Grove is a little cheaper and just as nice.
Could also look into renting points for a 2 bedroom villa at the Grand Californian from a DVC member. Still pricey but totally worth it IMHO. Probably not a whole lot more than renting a regular room at the GCH in low season ... $450/weeknight $560/weekend night at $10/pt. Needs to be 7+months out though for the DVC option to work.
