Recommendations for hotel somewhat near Universal?

We will be coming from Cocoa Beach late in the day and want to find an inexpensive hotel to stay at the day before we check into the Royal Pacific Resort. Will the ones closest to Universal be more expensive? I've looked at the Doubletree, Holiday Inn and a few others and they are around $125 for my family of 5. I can get a mousesavers rate at Buena Vista Suites for $89, but since we aren't going to Disney (boo hoo) I'm not sure I want to be in the DW vicinity. Really we just need a decent place a few miles or so from Universal, and I'd love to stick to $100 and under. Any recommendations? Thanks!

My kids stayed at La Quinta. They said it was fine but not great. I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at the other end of Major. It was nice, just a little further away than the Holiday Inn Closest to Universal.

Just returned last night from three nights at the Comfort Suites on Major Blvd. It's right next to the La Quinta that damo mentioned, I think. We paid $105 a night and I felt it was very nice. We got a suite with two queen beds and one sofa bed. It was clean, the staff was nice and there is free breakfast. I would stay there again.

Just booked Comfort Suites, thank you so much! Looks perfect for us and with tax, it's $111, so I'm pleased.

Thanks a lot! Now, don't suppose you all have a favorite hotel near the airport? We will literally be there to sleep since we will be at Universal during the day and our flight leaves at 7:20, so I assume we would need to get to MCO by 5 to return our car. Thanks for any opinions!

The Courtyard Marriott on the airport is good, we just stayed there this weekend. Was very disappointed when Priceline (I think I screwed up somehow) put us there but actually it's not a bad area. Just a long way to drive back and forth.

Thanks, I will check it out. I want somewhere close because last time we flew out of MCO, we had a hard time getting there from our hotel that was only 11 miles away.

If you join the choice privileges rewards program you can get a suite at the Quality suites lake buena vista for around 79 a night. It sleeps 6 and a free hot breakfast buffet is included. It has a living room and a full kitchen. I think it is like the suites you already mentioned for 89 a night.

Thank you what a great deal. I joined the Choice Priviliges Rewards, but I didn't get a number. Once I signed up, I tried to get the better rate and kept getting the same rate as before?

Okay I got my number by joining again but there is no option for the Choice number when entering for a ressie. Just AAA, Govt, Military, Best Available Rate. ?? Sorry, I don't know what I'm doing wrong!
