I have a tripod already and it is pretty lightweight, but it is bulky and I would have to carry it since I don't think it would fit in a small bag. Keeping track of two kids and a bulky tripod doesn't sound very fun.

I'm thinking about nighttime photos... and not relying on there being a trashcan etc... to rest the camera on. I have a remote shutter release which I can easily bring.

I have a Canon 7D if that makes a difference with the recommendation.

During my last trip to Disney I used the MeFoto A1350Q1B Roadtrip Travel Tripod. The tripod was nice and compact, the ball head had a Arca-Swiss style compatibility quick release plate, and the tripod supports about 18 pounds. It cost about $190. It comes in about 8 different colors.

Overall the tripod was sturdy enough to hold my camera with a 70-200mm lens with no problems.

I just ordered this one; Should be here tomorrow. I have read some real good things about it.

I use the Cullmann Magic 4 because it folds flat for easy storage in any suitcase. It also easily fits in my water bottle net on the side of my Lowepro Fastpack 200 so I always have it with me. It easily holds 6.6 lbs which is within my camera and a 70-200 f2.8 lens. Because of the leg configuration, I am able to hang my backpack on it for additional stability. It is really solid in that configuration.

If you're on a budget, I recommend the Ravelli APLT2 50" Light Weight Aluminum Tripod with Bag. I used it at MK this past month. Super light, sturdy, easy to use and SMALL. This thing is tiny. For $20, it's hard to beat. I can't afford $150 tripods, myself.

I agree with traylorc's pick. Bought the MeFoto RoadTrip for our trip last summer and was very happy with it. It can also be converted to a monopod which can come in handy. I would also recommend, as with any other tripod, making sure you are use to it before a trip. I wasn't able to get mine (back ordered) until about two weeks before our trip and I wasn't as comfortable with it as I would have liked.

Glad to see that you're still happy with your MeFoto. Mine's been brilliant. Took it to the US on a road trip through the Four Corners area and it travelled well in the sand, dust, water; and on the walks I did. It was great at Disney too.

To the OP. I have a 7D too. If you're in the market for this price range, the MeFoto Roadtrip holds the weight of the 7D and the 70 - 200, f/4 without any issue. I know Tom Bricker is recommending the Velbon this year; but seek out the article on his blog. He did recommend the MeFoto last year.

Hey PrincessInOz, great to here from you! Other than the Swiss plate for the head screw, I'm still very happy with mine.

It's funny I haven't been on the site for months and here was this tread, hope the OP finds this thread useful. I know I found your thread useful last year.

That's the one I have. I second his recommendation. :thumbsup2

It's small and lightweight, but still pretty tall for shooting over heads at Disney. It also comes in a zipper pouch with shoulder strap so very easy to carry around the parks.

I checked out all the options last year when I was looking to replace mine. I couldn't find a taller lightweight travel tripod.

I got my "Road-Trip" yesterday and man is it nice. Keep in mind I was using a $25.00 Amazon special and man what a difference. I went out yesterday afternoon and played around with it and I couldn`t be happier. It fits my camera case perfectly. Great quality. I can`t wait to use it on our next trip.

Have you given any thought to a gorillapod?

I have a gorillapod, and while it isn't a full sized tripod, it is so fricking handy to grab onto anything that happens to be near. Also, being able to wear it as a belt/necklace makes it far more portable!

I would include a link, but I am still new... :thumbsup2 (got my 10th post so I can now link! booyah!)

I purchased this one as well...can't recommend it highly enough...very light, compact, yet tall enough.... and the ballhead is really good.

Definitely recommend!

It only supports 4.4 pounds though, how sturdy is it when you have heavy gear on it?

Were you referencing the Luxi L III? If so...it supports 7.7 lbs. I used it with a gripped DSLR and a 70-200 2.8 without issues. Is it as supportive as a heavier tripod, no...but for its weight and compact design, it is great. I have no issues using it in most conditions...Would I use it with that setup in very windy conditions, maybe not.

Not every tripod meets every demand/use...but for a travel/compact tripod, this is great.

Cool, the Siriu is rated for 12.? pounds, I used it on the front of the ship (In the Wind) with my bag hanging off it for extra support. Pretty pleased with its performance :)
